July 28 – Saint Alphonsa of India: First Native-Born Patron Saint of the Sick, against the Death of Parents
Saint Alphonsa of the Immaculate Conception, First Native-Born Patron Saint of India (Feast Date: July 28)
Extract from Saint Alphonsa: “In 1945 she had an outbreak of violent illness, a tumor which had spread throughout her organs, transformed her final year of life into a continuous agony. Gastroenteritis and liver problems caused violent convulsions and vomiting up to forty times a day: “I feel that the Lord has destined me to be an oblation, a sacrifice of suffering… I consider a day in which I have not suffered, as a day lost to me”.
We, at the CTF/SOS DRS have prayed for the intercession of St. Alphonsa of the Immaculate Conception on behalf of those affected by the following catastrophes:
Violence against Christians in India, Iraq and elsewhere in Asia (Ongoing) (Asia) See World Mission Rosary Intentions: October 27- November 9, 2008.
