Servants of Saint Camillus Disaster Relief Services (SOS DRS)/Camillian Task Force (CTF)
“When the World Mission Rosary is completed, one has embraced all continents, all people in prayer.” Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen
General Rosary Intention: That the Lord in His Divine Mercy – through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary – may build up His Kingdom, make these mysteries a reality in our lives, strengthen us in our common mission, and come to the aid of those for whom we pray.
Africa (Green Beads)
Intention – That the Lord Jesus through the intercession of St. Mary, Our Lady of Africa, the Patroness of Africa, may come to the aid of those affected by violent clashes in Sudan. May the Lord help all those affected by man-made and natural disasters in Africa.
Disaster (Violent Clashes) Map of Sudan. Extract from’Hundreds’ killed in Sudan clashes: “Hundreds of SPLM-North fighters were killed in clashes with the Sudanese army in South Kordofan state, local governor Ahmed Haroun said. ‘Several hundred members of the movement were killed this day in an assault on the city of Teludi that was repelled by the armed forces,’ the governor of South Kordofan, an oil-producing state and scene of frequent clashes, said on Monday. An army spokesman, Sawarmi Khaled Saad, said “this morning more than 700 rebel fighters together with 12 officers tried to attack Teludi (east of the provincial capital Kadugli) to occupy it.” ‘The armed forces waited for the invaders to arrive on three fronts with equipment and on several vehicles, but in an hour the armed forces and popular defence forces beat back the attack, causing heavy losses,’ he said.” See also: South Kordofan unrest: Sudan ‘kills hundreds’ of rebels, Sudan says seizes rebel stronghold in border state, Hundreds of rebels killed in clashes with Sudan. Saint Mary, Our Lady of Africa (Patron Saint of Africa) (Feast Date: April 30) Extract from: May 1st: Algeria – Our Lady of Africa: “It was originally a small statue of the Madonna, set in a frame of shells at a spot often visited by Barbary robbers. Fishermen came there to pray for safe voyages. In time, the grotto became a chapel and eventually a large church. A great miracle made the revered chapel even better known. Archbishop Lavigerie of Algiers was on his way to Rome accompanied by seven hundred soldiers, priests, and a Trappist abbot when their ship was caught in a violent storm. The crew despaired of the ship’s safety. The archbishop had promised the Mother of God a pilgrimage to the shrine of “Our Lady of Africa” if she would save them. The ship was saved and the promise was kept.” See PICTURE of Our Lady of Africa. Oceania (Blue Beads)
Intention – That the Lord Jesus through the intercession of St. Brendan the Navigator, the Patron Saint of Mariners, Boatmen and Sailors, may come to the aid of those affected by the migrant ship accident near Java, Indonesia. May the Lord help all those affected by man-made and natural disasters in Oceania.
Disaster (Migrant Ship Accident) Map of Indonesia Extract from: More feared dead in Indonesia ship sinking: “Up to 20 more people are feared dead after an overcrowded wooden ship apparently carrying Australia-bound migrants sank off the coast of Java, according to Australia’s immigration minister. About 70 people were aboard the boat which left the southern Indonesian port of Cilacap early on Tuesday, local police say, and eight have so far been confirmed dead. The toll rose after the body of a 9-year-old Iranian boy was recovered on Wednesday. ‘There are around 20 missing and tragically I think we need to brace ourselves that many, if not most or all of those people, will not be rescued alive,’ Chris Bowen said on Wednesday. The bodies of seven people including two young boys and three women had been recovered, police said, adding that more were still inside the capsized vessel. ‘The dead have been identified as being from Afghanistan and Pakistan. The ones that survived are mostly from Iran,’ the chief said. ‘We have found the location of where the ship capsized. But we haven’t turned it. We think there are more dead bodies inside.’ See also: Crowded migrant ship sinks off Indonesia, 6 dead.
Saint Brendan the Navigator (Patron Saint of Mariners, Boatmen and Sailors) (Feast Date: May 16) Extract fromSaint Brendan: “Of all Irish saints, Brendan was the greatest traveller. . . . Brendan is associated with a number of monastic sites close to the River Shannon and around the west coast of Ireland. In addition, he voyaged to Scotland, founding a monastery on Arran and visiting other islands. He is said to have met Saint Columba on Hynba Island in Scotland, and even to have gone to Brittany with Saint Malo, a Welsh monk. He may also have stayed at Llancarfan, the Welsh monastery founded by Saint Cadoc. Brendan’s reputation as a traveller rests, however, on the Navigatio Sancti Brendani, an account written by an Irish monk in the ninth or tenth century. . . . The Navigatio Sancti Brendani describes meetings with Saint Patrick and Judas Iscariot, the latter clinging to a rock during a temporary release from Hell. The saint celebrates Easter on the back of a whale, and escapes a predatory sea-cat as big as a horse. It is a work in the tradition of Homer’s Odyssey, and draws on Celtic mythology as well as classical sources and the Scriptures.”See PICTURE of St. Brendan the Navigator. Europe (White Beads)

Disaster (Flooding) Map of Italy Extract from Pope prays for flood victims in Thailand and Italy, expresses his closeness to those suffering: “Pope Benedict XVI says he is praying for the victims of recent flooding in Thailand and Italy. Benedict began his greetings to pilgrims in St. Peter’s Square on Sunday by recalling the devastation caused by heavy rains in the two countries. Thailand’s worst flooding in half a century has claimed 381 lives over the last three months. In Italy, floods and mudslides last week devastated coastal areas of Liguria and Tuscany and killed nine people. The pope says he wants to express his closeness to those suffering because of the flooding and assure them of his prayers.” See also: Italy: Emergency Declared in Flood Zones, Italy Floods Kill 9, Destroy Historic Villages, Italy Floods: Emergency Funds Approved. Saint Bernardine of Siena (Patron Saint of Italy (Feast Date: May 20) Extract from St Bernadine of Siena: “Bernardino’s charismatic preaching filled the piazze of Italian cities. Thousands of listeners flocked to hear him and to participate in dramatic rituals, which included collective weeping, bonfires of vanities, and exorcisms. He was a renowned peacemaker, in the Franciscan tradition, who tried to calm feuding clans and factions in the turbulent political world of the Renaissance. His preaching visits would often culminate in mass reconciliations, as listeners were persuaded to exchange the bacio di pace, or kiss of peace. Bernardino was sensitive to the demands of secular life, and tried to negotiate between Christian ethics and a conflicting code of honor that stressed retaining face in a public world. He argued that the catalyst of civil discord in the urban setting was malicious gossip, which led to insults, and, too often, vendetta by aggressive males. His surprising allies in his peacekeeping mission were the women who comprised the majority of his audience.” See PICTURE of Saint Bernardine of Siena. Intention – That the Lord Jesus through the intercession of St. Rosa of Lima, the Patron Saint of Central America, may come to the aid of those affected by flooding in Guatemala. May the Lord help all those affected by man-made and natural disasters in America.
Disaster (Flooding) Map of Guatemala Extract from Taiwan provides aid to help Guatemalan flood recovery efforts: “Torrential rains across large parts of Central America have left countless communities cut off in Guatemala. President Alvaro Colom has declared a state of emergency and has reached out to congress to speed budget decisions to channel money to aid thousands of Guatemalans affected across the country. On behalf of the Chinese Republic of Taiwan, Adolfo Sun, Taiwan’s ambassador to Guatemala singed on Tuesday (October 19) a donation before President Colom to demonstrate Taiwan’s solidarity with the Guatemalan people. “The Chinese Republic of Taiwan wants to make this donation in solidarity to all the affected Guatemalan people,” said Ambassador Sun. Hemmed in by rival China’s diplomatic embargo, Taiwan has only 26 diplomatic allies around the world — including the Central American states of Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, Guatemala, El Salvador and Costa Rica. Nearly 154,000 Guatemalans have been displaced from their homes and 38 have lost their lives.” See also: Floods swamp Guatemala, At least 80 die in flooding; illnesses already breaking out. Saint Rose of Lima (Patron Saint of Central America (Feast Dates: August 23, August 30) Extract fromSAINT ROSE OF LIMA, VIRGIN—1617: “Rose seems to have taken for her model St. Catherine of Siena, and, like the earlier saint, she experienced so ardent a love of God whenever she was in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament that exaltation completely filled her soul. Yet Rose was not without a practical side. Her father had been well-to-do, but when he lost money in mining ventures, the family’s fortunes reached a very low ebb. Rose helped out by selling her fine needlework; she also raised beautiful flowers and these too were taken to market. One of her brothers, Ferdinand, was sympathetic and understanding toward this sister who was so markedly “different.” As she grew to maturity, her parents were anxious to have Rose marry, and indeed there were several worthy aspirants for her hand. Rose did not wish marriage, and, to end the arguments and offers, she joined the Third Order of St. Dominic, donned the habit, and took a vow of perpetual virginity.” See PICTURES of St. Rose of Lima. Asia (Yellow Beads)
Intention – That the Lord Jesus through the intercession of St. Catherine of Siena, the Patron Saint against Floods, may come to the aid of those affected by flooding in Thailand. May the Lord help all those affected by man-made and natural disasters in Asia.
Disaster (Floods) Map of Thailand Extract from Death toll rises to 381 in Thai floods: “The death toll from the worst floods in half a century to hit Thailand continued to climb on Tuesday. So far, at least 381 people have been killed during months of monsoon rains, according to the country’s Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation. The ministry of public health said that the leading causes of flood-related deaths are drowning and electrocution. Bangkok’s central business district has avoided major flooding so far, but outlying areas are chest- or waist-deep in water. U.S. Ambassador to Thailand Kristie A. Kenney said Monday that “the worst may be over for central Bangkok,” but about 2 million people are still affected by the flooding. The United States has pledged a total of $1.1 million in aid. Charities working in the country have warned of diseases such as diarrhea, dengue fever and malaria in the coming days and weeks. Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has said authorities would speed up the process of draining water into Bangkok’s canals and into the sea, raising hopes that water levels in the city could start to sink. However, the government has warned it may take more than a month for the floods to recede. Already, the flooding has caused an estimated $6 billion in damages, the Thai finance ministry has said. The government has set up more than 1,700 shelters, where more than 113,000 people have taken refuge.” See also: Thai flood frustration grows, Thailand flood could create laptop shortage, The risk of “warning fatigue” in disaster preparedness, In Flood, Thai Leaders Choose Between Bad and Worse Options. Saint Catherine of Siena (Patron Saint against Floods (Feast Date: April 29) Extract from The Story of our Patron: “The mystical communion that was at the heart of St. Catherine’s spirituality inspired her to reach out to the poor and suffering of Siena. When the Black Death swept through her city, she had no hesitation in caring for the victims. She worked as a nurse. She dug graves for those who died of the plague and then buried them properly herself. She accompanied prisoners who were condemned to death to the place of execution waiting with them and praying for them to the end. . . . Catherine ranks high among the mystics and spiritual writers of the Church. In 1970 Paul VI named her and Teresa of Avila as doctors of the Church. In recent years, it has been suggested that she (among other possibilities) should be named patron of the Internet. Her spiritual testament is found in The Dialogue.” See PICTURE of Saint Catherine of Siena.
