Assistant Editor – News Blog – SOS DRS (SOS Doctors)
Contribute significantly and in a creative way to helping disaster victims and the operations of SOS DRS – an international, Catholic, non-profit disaster relief organization based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The organization seeks a person who is reliable, hardworking and eager-to-learn who will assist Fr. Scott Binet MD, MI – the President of SOS DRS and editor of the multi-lingual news blog. SOS DRS is presently planning and implementing several initiatives, and getting accurate information to members of SOS DRS, donors and other interested parties is essential for the organization. The assistant editor will be primarily responsible for editing news posts, soliciting news via e-mail, composing articles, helping with the ¨blog newsletter¨, translating articles (if capable), circulating articles via e-mail to translators and posting their work. Required is an ability to use the English language very well (written), regular and uninterrupted access to the internet at home or easy access to the computers at the SOS DRS HQ, a working knowledge of MS Word and e-mail, and the time and the desire to learn about and work on the blog – https://sosdrs.wordpress.com/ Good reading and writing skills in any of the following languages would also be helpful (Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, French, German, Polish). On-site training in the use of the blog will be provided by Fr. Scott. The work will be done initially at the HQ located at 1039 East Russell Avenue in Milwaukee next to Immaculate Conception Parish and then off-site as the situation allows (See Map). The initial anticipated workload is 10-15 hours per week depending on the availability of the volunteer – who will be asked to work as part of a team of those who maintain the blog. The volunteer should be prepared to make a renewable 3-month commitment, the continuation of which will be contingent upon an assessment by both parties. Fr. Scott Binet MD, MI will briefly interview the volunteer by phone and then in person prior to the beginning of the work. Please be prepared to submit a curriculum vitae before the interview.
