Disaster (Rape During War) Map of SudanExtract from Rape is being used as a weapon of war in Congo. During 12 years of conflict in the Congo the most significant victims are women and girls who ‘are shot from the inside’. A different form of terrorism is ravaging the war-torn Democratic Republic of the Congo – rape. According to United Nations estimates, over two hundred thousand women and children, some as young as 3 or old as 70, have been raped in 12 years of conflict. The conflict, however, has spawned a number of other problems for the people, particularly in rape and violence. Typically gang-raped, physically abused and mutilated, women and girls are afraid to work in the fields or gather firewood from the jungle – even in a group.
Saint Josephine Bakhita (Patron Saint of Sudan) Extract from St. Josephine Bakhita (Feast Date: Feb 8). Profile Bakhita was born to a locally important family in Olgossa, a village in the western Sudanese region of Darfur. Her father was the brother of a tribal chief. At the age of nine she was kidnapped by Arab slave traders and over the course of the next eight years was sold and resold five times in the markets of El Obeid and Khartoum. The trauma of her abduction caused her to forget her own name, and the name we know her by is a compound of the name given her by the slavers (bakhita, the Arabic word for lucky) and the Christian name she took in adulthood. She was also forcibly converted to Islam. Bakhita suffered much brutality during her captivity. See picture of Saint Josephine Bakhita

Saint Mary, Our Lady of Medjugorje (Feast Dates of the Blessed Virgin Mary)Extract from Our Lady of Međugorje Profile The Roman Catholic Church has declared that it cannot be affirmed that the reported apparitions are supernatural in character. A letter written by Archbishop Tarcisio Bertone, Secretary of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, on March 23, 1996, reaffirms that official “pilgrimages to Medjugorje, understood as a place of authentic Marian apparitions, are not permitted to be organized either on the parish or on the diocesan level, because that would be in contradiction to what the Bishops of former Yugoslavian affirmed in their aforementioned declaration. In June Dr. Anne Schuchat of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention declined even to hazard a guess, saying it was “more than a million.” Why not? “Most people who have respiratory illnesses don’t find out exactly what caused it. Even most people with influenza don’t know exactly which type of influenza caused their illness.” In fact, swine flu is often suspected when a patient’s instant in-office flu test comes up unreadable. On Saturday October 24, Barack Obama declared the swine flu a national emergency in the US
