General Rosary Intention: That the Lord in His Divine Mercy – through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary – may build up His Kingdom, make these mysteries a reality in our lives, strengthen us in our common mission, and come to the aid of those for whom we pray.

Africa (Green Beads)

Intention – That the Lord Jesus through the intercession of St. Columbanus,  the Patron Saint against Floods, may come to the aid of those affected by flooding in Tanzania.  May the Lord help all those affected by man-made and natural disasters in Africa.

Disaster (Flooding) Map of Tanzania in Africa.Extract from TANZANIA: Floods affect 28,000 in central regions: “DAR ES SALAAM, 21 January 2010 (IRIN) – At least 28,000 people are dependent on emergency food and other relief supplies in the central Tanzanian regions of Dodoma and Morogoro following floods, which also damaged transport infrastructure, according to officials. As of 15 January, some 24,860 flood-affected in the Morogoro region had been registered. . . . the rains, which have pounded Kilosa District since the last week of December 2009, had affected some 5,867 households. Those affected were initially sheltered in schools and other public facilities; regional authorities later set up 24 camps to accommodate 10,585 of the homeless. . . .”

Saint Columbanus (Patron Saint against Floods) (Memorial: Nov. 23). Extract from Saint Columbanus: “Well-born, handsome and educated, Columbanus was torn between a desire for God and easy access to the pleasures of the world. Acting on advice of a holy anchoress, he decided to withdraw from the world. His family opposed the choice, his mother going so far as to block the door. He was a monk at Lough Erne. He studied Scripture extensively, and wrote a commentary on the Psalms. He was a monk at Bangor under abbot Saint Comgall. In middle age, Columbanus felt a call to missionary life. With twelve companions (Saint Attala, Columbanus the Younger, Cummain, Domgal, Eogain, Eunan, Saint Gall, Gurgano, Libran, Lua, Sigisbert and Waldoleno), he travelled to Scotland, England, and then to France in 585. The area, though nominally Christian, had fallen far from the faith, but was ready for missionaries, and they had some success. They were warmly greeted at the court of Gontram, and king of Burgundy invited the band to stay. They chose the half-ruined Roman fortress of Annegray in the Vosges Mountains for their new home with Columbanus as their abbot.. . . ” See picture of St. Columbanus and A prayer of St. Columbanus.

Oceania (Blue Beads)

Intention – That the Lord Jesus through the intercession of St. Mary, Our Lady, Star of the Sea,  the Patron Saint of Seafarers, may come to the aid of those affected by navigation errors in the waters near Guam.  May the Lord help all those affected by man-made and natural disasters in Oceania.

Disaster (Submarine Accident) Map of Guam.  Extract from Navy Says Sub Hit Mountain That Was Not on Its Charts: “A nuclear attack submarine that ran aground Saturday in the South Pacific, killing one sailor and injuring 23 others, appears to have smashed into an undersea mountain that was not on its charts, Navy officials said yesterday. The submarine, the San Francisco, was cruising at high speed — about 30 knots — and was more than 400 feet below the surface when the accident forced it to blow air into its emergency ballast tanks to surface.  Some of the tanks were damaged by the impact. One officer said the effort to keep the submarine afloat was initially ”very touch and go. . . .”

Saint Mary–Our Lady, Star of the Sea (Patron Saint of Seafarers.) Extract from Our Lady, Star of the Sea: “Our Lady, Star of the Sea is an ancient title for the Blessed Virgin Mary, mother of Jesus Christ. The words Star of the Sea are a translation of the Latin title Stella Maris, first reliably used with relation to the Virgin Mary in the ninth century. The title was used to emphasize Mary’s role as a sign of hope and as a guiding star for Christians. Under this title, the Virgin Mary is believed to intercede as a guide and protector of those who travel or seek their livelihoods on the sea. . . .See picture of Our Lady, Stella Maris. See Marian Hymn: Hail Queen of Heaven, the Ocean Star.

Europe (White Beads)

Intention – That the Lord Jesus through the intercession of St. Joseph,  the Patron Saint of Belgium, may come to the aid of those affected by the collapsed building in Liege, Belgium.  May the Lord help all those affected by man-made and natural disasters in Europe.

Disaster (Building Collapse) Map of Belgium in Europe Extract from Death toll at 9 after Belgium building collapse: “LIEGE, Belgium – The death toll from the explosion and collapse of a crowded apartment building rose to nine overnight with two more bodies recovered from the rubble before the search was interrupted, officials said Thursday. An apparent gas explosion gutted the five-story apartment building on Wednesday. An additional 21 people were injured, two of them seriously. . . .”  See video:  5-story Collapse in Belgium

Saint Joseph (Patron Saint of Belgium) (Feast Date: May 1.) Extract from Saint Joseph:  “We know he was a carpenter, a working man, for the skeptical Nazarenes ask about Jesus, “Is this not the carpenter’s son?” (Matthew 13:55). He wasn’t rich for when he took Jesus to the Temple to be circumcised and Mary to be purified he offered the sacrifice of two turtledoves or a pair of pigeons, allowed only for those who could not afford a lamb (Luke 2:24). Despite his humble work and means, Joseph came from a royal lineage. Luke and Matthew disagree some about the details of Joseph’s genealogy but they both mark his descent from David, the greatest king of Israel (Mt 1:1-16; Luke 3:23-38). Indeed the angel who first tells Joseph about Jesus greets him as “son of David,” a royal title used also for Jesus.” See Pictures of St. Joseph and Prayers to St. Joseph..

America (Red Beads)

Intention – That the Lord Jesus through the intercession of Agatha of Sicily,  the Patron Saint against Disasters, may come to the aid of those affected by the Earthquake in Haiti.  May the Lord help all those affected by man-made and natural disasters in America.

Disaster (Earthquake in Haiti) Map of Haiti. Extract from: HAITI: Looking to the hurricane season: “PORT-AU-PRINCE, 26 January 2010 (IRIN) – The Haitian government estimates at least 500,000 need shelter after the 12 January earthquake devastated the city, but the challenge is to find options that will get people through the upcoming hurricane season, which typically starts in May, said Jean Phillippe Antolin, with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), which is coordinating UN efforts to provide shelter. The government has identified at least 30 sites to turn into temporary tent communities in Port-au-Prince, most in areas where people are already informally camped out, but longer-term solutions are required. . . .”  See videos: “Miracle” rescue 15 days after quake. and Boy rides bike for Haiti relief.

Saint Agatha of Sicily (Patron Saint against Disasters) (Feast Date: February 5.) Extract from Saint Agatha of Sicily : “We have little reliable information about this martyr, who has been honoured since ancient times, and whose name is included in the canon of the Mass. Young, beautiful and rich, Agatha lived a life consecrated to God. When Decius announced the edicts against Christians, the magistrate Quinctianus tried to profit by Agatha’s sanctity; he planned to blackmail her into sex in exchange for not charging her. . . .” .See pictures of Saint Agatha of Sicily.

Asia (Yellow Beads)

Intention – That the Lord Jesus through the intercession of Blessed Jacinta Marto, the Patron of Prisoners, may come to the aid of those affected by tuberculosis in Indonesian prisons and elsewhere.  May the Lord help all those affected by man-made and natural disasters in Asia.

Disaster (Tuberculosis in Prisons) Map of Indonesia. Extract from INDONESIA: Overcrowding fuels TB in prisons.  “JAKARTA, 25 January 2010 (IRIN) – Serious overcrowding, a shortage of medical staff and a lack of funding are thwarting Indonesia’s efforts to tackle tuberculosis (TB) in prisons, experts say. Indonesia’s 422 prisons hold more than 140,000 inmates, even though they were designed for 80,000. . . Left untreated, each person with active TB can infect on average 10 to 15 people a year. . . .”  More than 2 billion people, equal to 1/3 of the world’s population, are infected with TB bacilli, the microbes that cause TB. 1/10  people infected with TB bacilli will become sick with active TB in their lifetime

Blessed Jacinta Marto (Patron of Prisoners ) (Feast Date: February 20) Extract from Fatima – The Children: Jacinta:  “Jacinta charmed all who knew her. She was pretty and energetic, and had a natural grace of movement. She loved to dance, and was sorry when their priest condemned dancing in public. Sometimes willful, she would pout when she did not get her way. She took a special delight in flowers, gathering them by the armful and making garlands for Lucia. At a First Communion, she was among the little “angels” spreading petals before the Blessed Sacrament. She had a marked love for Our Lord, and at the age of five she melted in tears on hearing the account of His Passion, vowing that she would never sin or offend Him anymore. . . .”  See video:  Blessed Jacinta Marto, Picture of Blessed Jacinta Marto and  Prayer for the Beatification of Jacinta Marto.
