World Mission Rosary Intentions
March 1-March 14, 2010
“When the World Mission Rosary is completed, one has embraced all continents, all people in prayer.” Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen
General Rosary Intention: That the Lord in His Divine Mercy – through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary – may build up His Kingdom, make these mysteries a reality in our lives, strengthen us in our common mission, and come to the aid of those for whom we pray.
Africa (Green Beads)
Intention – That the Lord Jesus through the intercession of St. Benedict of Nursia, the Patron Saint of Civil Engineers, may come to the aid of those affected by the collapse of the minaret in Morocco. May the Lord help all those affected by man-made and natural disasters in Africa.
Disaster (Collapse of Minaret) Map of Morocco.Extract from Minaret collapse in Morocco reportedly kills 36: “A 400-year-old minaret collapsed Friday on worshipers in Meknes, Morocco, killing 36 and injuring 71. The collapse occurred as hundreds of people were gathering in Bab Berdieyinne mosque in Meknes, a town in northern Morocco located 140 km (87 miles) southeast of Rabat, it said. . . . ‘We were in the middle of prayers’ when the structure collapsed, said one victim told Morocco TV from his hospital bed”. Saint Benedict of Nursia (Patron Saint of Civil Engineers) (Memorials: July 11[Latin Rite]; March 11 [Benedictine Monks and Nuns]; March 14 [Byzantine Rite]). Extract from Saint Benedict of Nursia: “Born to the Roman nobility. Twin brother of Saint Scholastica. Studied in Rome, Italy, but was dismayed by the lack of discipline and the lackadaisical attitude of his fellow students. Fled to the mountains near Subiaco, living as a hermit in a cave for three years; reported to have been fed by a raven. His virtues caused an abbey to request him to lead them. . . . His discipline was such that an attempt was made on his life; some monks tried by poison him, but he blessed the cup and rendered it harmless. He returned to his cave, but continued to attract followers, and eventually established twelve monasteries. Had the ability to read consciences, the gift of prophesy, and could forestall attacks of the devil.” See Pictures of Saint Benedict of Nursia,The Rule of St. Benedict , March 11, July 11 – Saint Benedict of Nursia: Patron Saint of Civil Engineers (Multilingual), and Prayers to St. Benedict.
Oceania (Blue Beads)
Intention – That the Lord Jesus through the intercession of Saint Mary MacKillop, the Patron Saint of the needy, may come to the aid of those on the street in Australia and elsewhere. May the Lord help all those affected by man-made and natural disasters in Oceania.
Disaster (Homelessness) Map of Australia. Extract from 22 per cent rise in past year of homeless in Sydney: “Australia’s largest city has recorded a 22 per cent increase in those sleeping rough. . . .”Our street counts show a concerning, consistent rise in the number of people counted sleeping in our parks, streets, trains, train stations and in overnight temporary shelters since we started conducting these counts in August 2008.”’
Saint Mary MacKillop (Patron Saint of the Needy) (Feast Date: August 8). See extract from: Pope to canonise first Australian. “Australia is to get its first saint, Mother Mary MacKillop, a Melbourne-born nun who worked with needy children, Pope Benedict has announced. The Vatican said MacKillop, who died in 1909, would be canonized on 17 October. Her work for the Church was sometimes controversial – and in 1871 she was excommunicated for insubordination. She is reputed to have started her first school in a disused stable, and established an order of nuns at the age of 24. . . .” See also: August 8 – Saint Mary Mackillop: Patron Saint of the Needy, and prayers: Blessed Mary MacKillop.
Europe (White Beads)
Intention – That the Lord Jesus through the intercession of St. Valentine, the Patron Saint of Travelers, may come to the aid of those affected by the train collision in Belgium. May the Lord help all those affected by man-made and natural disasters in Europe.
Disaster (Train Collision) Map of BelgiumSee extract from Head-on train crash in Belgium kills 18: “A commuter train ran a stoplight during morning rush hour and collided head-on with another train in a Brussels suburb Monday, killing at least 18 people and injuring 55 in Belgium’s deadliest train wreck in decades.” The impact peeled away the front of one train car and threw at least one other off the tracks, causing amputations and other severe injuries. The force of the collision smashed one train deep into the front of the other, tearing back the metal sides. The trains tipped high into the air and broke overhead power lines. . . . “It was a nightmare,” Christian Wampach, 47, told The Associated Press after medical workers bandaged his head at a sports complex where the less seriously injured were treated. See video: Belgian train crash: Eighteen people dead in Halle.
Saint Valentine (Patron Saint of Travelers.) (Memorial: February 14). Extract from St. Valentine: “Saints are not supposed to rest in peace; they’re expected to keep busy: to perform miracles, to intercede. Being in jail or dead is no excuse for non-performance of the supernatural. One legend says, while awaiting his execution, Valentinus restored the sight of his jailer’s blind daughter. Another legend says, on the eve of his death, he penned a farewell note to the jailer’s daughter, signing it, “From your Valentine.” St. Valentine was a Priest, martyred in 269 at Rome and was buried on the Flaminian Way. He is the Patron Saint of affianced couples, bee keepers, engaged couples, epilepsy, fainting, greetings, happy marriages, love, lovers, plague, travelers, and young people. He is represented in pictures with birds and roses.”See picture: St. Valentine Heals the Epileptics and Rebukes the Worshippers of False Gods, and Prayer to St. Valentine.
America (Red Beads)
Intention – That the Lord Jesus through the intercession of St. Christina the Astonishing, the Patron Saint of Therapists, may come to the aid of those affected by Psychological Trauma in Haiti, and those assisting them. May the Lord help all those affected by man-made and natural disasters in America.
Disaster (Psychological Trauma) Map of Haiti. Extract from: Psychological Trauma for Haitians – Who will help?: “Like most of us, I’ve been a passive onlooker of the terrible devastation that has occurred in Haiti. I’ve watched as people are hauled from the rubble up to 2 weeks after the disaster. It looks horrible and the one thing that keeps worrying me as I watch all this, is not about their physical state, although that’s important of course – it’s about the psychological trauma that these poor people must eventually endure. Why eventually? Because the worst symptoms of psychological trauma and/or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) seem to arise when an individual reaches a place of safety.”
Saint Christina the Astonishing (Patron Saint of Therapists) (Memorial: July 24) Extract from Saint Christina the Astonishing: “At age 21, she experienced a severe seizure of what may have been epilepsy. It was so severe as to be cataleptic, and she was thought to have died. During her funeral Mass, she suddenly recovered, and levitated to the roof of the church. Ordered down by the priest, she landed on the altar and stated that she had been to hell, purgatory, and heaven, and had been returned to earth with a ministry to pray for souls in purgatory. . . .She exhibited both unusual traits and abilities. For example, she could not stand the odor of other people because she could smell the sin in them, and would climb trees or buildings, hide in ovens or cupboards, or simply levitate to avoid contact. She lived in a way that was considered poverty even in the 13th century, sleeping on rocks, wearing rags, begging, and eating what came to hand. She would roll in fire or handle it without harm, stand in freezing water in the winter for hours, spend long periods in tombs, or allow herself to be dragged under water by a mill wheel, though she never sustained injury. Given to ecstasies during which she led the souls of the recently dead to purgatory, and those in purgatory to. paradise.” See picture of Saint Christina the Astonishing. Saint Mary, Blessed Virgin, Our Lady of the Snow.(Feast Day: August 5.) Extract from Our Lady of the Snows:”Our Lady’s Sign…. A Snowfall. This is the history of Our Lady of the Snows. The time was the year 352, so soon after the birth of Jesus that many did not know about Him, and many “dared” not know, for fear of persecution. The city of Rome, Italy, was fast becoming a Catholic center, and there resided Pope Liberius, the Holy Father, Successor of the Holy Apostle, St. Peter. Among his loyal subjects were a noble patrician, John, and his wife. This couple was very holy and devout. They were not blessed with children, so it was their desire that their worldly goods should be given to the Mother of God. They discussed this with Pope Liberius and he counseled them to commend this holy intention to the Blessed Virgin Mary. Fervently, they besought her to show them her desire by some sign. During the night of August 5th, the Virgin Mary appeared to John and his wife, and also to Pope Liberius, telling them to construct a church in her honor on the crest of the Esquiline Hill. As a sign of her will, she told them, they would find it covered with snow. . . .” See August 5 – St. Mary, Our Lady of the Snows, Novena Prayers to Our Lady of the Snows.
