Oceania (Blue Beads)

Disaster (Cyclone Thomas) Map of Fiji. Extract from Fiji  declares state of emergency for cyclone aid: Suva, FIJI — The South Pacific island nation of Fiji has suffered overwhelming damage from a powerful cyclone that battered its shores for more than three days, the prime minister said Wednesday as relief operations were launched in the country’s northern regions. . . . ‘Some of the houses have blown away. A lot of trees have been uprooted, some of the roads have been blocked off because the waves have picked up rocks and coral and have dumped it on the road,’ he said. . . .Villagers with chain saws, shovels and other tools began a major cleanup Wednesday, he said. A nationwide curfew was lifted Wednesday, but a state of emergency will remain in effect for 30 days in the country’s northern and eastern divisions. . . .   “See also:  Cyclone intensifies in Fiji and video:  Fiji Declares State of Emergency as Cyclone Tomas Hits.

Saint (Genevieve) (Patron Saint of Disasters) (Feastday:  January 3) Extract from Saint Genevieve:”Genevieve, like so many others who wished to practice religious virtue, remained at home, leading an innocent, prayerful life. It is uncertain when she formally received the religious veil. …. She devoted herself to works of charity and practiced severe corporal austerities, abstaining completely from flesh meat and breaking her fast only twice in the week. . . . Like Blessed Joan of Arc, in later times, she had frequent communion with the other world, but her visions and prophecies were treated as frauds and deceits. Her enemies conspired to drown her; but, through the intervention of Germain of Auxerre, their animosity was finally overcome. The bishop of the city appointed her to look after the welfare of the virgins dedicated to God, and by her instruction and example she led them to a high degree of sanctity.” See picture of Saint Genevieve, Prayer to St. Genevieve, Prayers to St. Genevieve and video: Saint Genevieve (January 3).

Intention – That the Lord Jesus through the intercession of  Saint Thorlac Thorhallsson,  the Patron Saint of Iceland, may come to the aid of those affected by the volcanic eruption in that country.  May the Lord help all those affected by man-made and natural disasters in Europe

Disaster (Volcanic Eruption) Map of Iceland. Extract from: Iceland’s Eyjafjallajoekull volcano shuts down nation: “ICELAND’S first volcanic eruption in six years has forced 600 people to flee their homes and brought a halt to all flights into and out of the Nordic island nation. Smoke could be seen rising from behind Eyjafjallajoekull glacier and volcanic ash filled the sky after the eruption – foretold by a week of localized earthquakes – began. . . . the risk of floods posed by melting glacial ice prompted the authorities to declare a state of emergency and to evacuate the area.  See video: Volcano erupts near Eyjafjallajoekull in south Iceland and Iceland volcano could have world consequences.

Saint (Thorlac Thorhallsson) (Patron Saint of Iceland) (Feast Dates: July 20th and December 23rd) Extract from Saint Thorlac Thorhallsson:  “Saint Thorlac was born in the south of Iceland in 1133. America (Red Beads)

Intention – That the Lord Jesus through the intercession of  Saint Maria Goretti,  the Patron Saint of Rape Victims, may come to the aid of  those affected by rape in Haiti after the earthquake.  May the Lord help all those affected by man-made and natural disasters in America.

Disaster (Rape in the wake of the earthquake) Map of Haiti.Extract from   Haiti quake victims now face rape trauma: Rape was a big problem in Haiti even before the earthquake and frequently was used as a political weapon in times of upheaval. . . .  the quake that killed an estimated 200,000 people has made women and girls ever more vulnerable. They have lost their homes and are forced to sleep in flimsy tents or tarp-covered lean-tos. They’ve lost male protection with the deaths of husbands, brothers and sons. And they are living in close quarters with strangers. A 21-year-old said her family has received no food aid because the Haitian men handing out coupons for food distribution demand sexual favors. . . .  ‘In particular, young girls have to negotiate sexually in order to get shelter from the rains and access to food aid.'”See also HAITI: Women at risk in the camps,Rape Rampant in Haiti’s earthquake Camps, and video: Action Aid reports rise in rape and sexual attacks in Haiti since earthquake.

Saint Maria Goretti (Patron Saint of Rape Victims) (Feast Date: July 6).  Extract from Saint Maria Goretti:  Beautiful, pious farm girl, one of six children of Luigi Goretti and Assunta Carlini. . . . the family was forced to move onto the Serenelli farm to survive.  In 1902 at age twelve, Maria was attacked by 19-year-old farm-hand Alessandro Serenelli. He tried to rape the girl who fought, yelled that it was a sin, and that he would go to hell. He tried to choke her into submission, then stabbed her fourteen times. She survived in hospital for two days, forgave her attacker, asked God’s forgiveness of him, and died holding a crucifix and medal of Our Lady. The vision of Maria in a dream led to Alessandro’s conversion, and he later testified at her cause for beatification.” See pictures of Saint Maria Goretti, Official Prayers to Saint Maria Gorettiand video:Saint Maria Goretti.

Asia (Yellow Beads)

Intention – That the Lord Jesus through the intercession of Germain Cousin,  the Patron Saint of Persons with Disabilities, may come to the aid of those affected by birth defects in Iraq in the wake of  the war.  May the Lord help all those affected by man-made and natural disasters in Asia.

Disaster (Birth defects after the war) Map of Iraq. Extract from  Disturbing Fallujah birth defects: “Six years after the intense fighting began in the Iraqi town of Falluja between US forces and Sunni insurgents, there is a disturbingly large number of cases of birth defects in the town. . . . . One photograph I saw showed a newborn baby with three heads.  While we were at the clinic, people kept arriving with children who were suffering major problems – a little girl with only one arm, several children who were paralyzed, and another girl with a spinal condition so bad I asked my cameraman not to film her. . . .Outside, a man who had heard we were there had brought his four-year-old daughter to show us. She had six fingers on each hand, and six toes on each foot.  She was also suffering from a number of other serious health problems. The father told us that the house where they still lived had been hit by an American shell during the fighting in 2004.  There may well be a link with drinking-water, especially in al-Julan. After the fighting was over, the rubble from the town was bulldozed into the river bank, and most people in this area get their water from the river.” See video: Fallujah’s Birth Defects.

Saint Germaine Cousin (Patron Saint of Persons with Disabilities) (Feast Date: June 15) Extract from Saint Germaine Cousin, Virgin: “During the long hours of solitude she spent in the fields and in the stable at night, she remained in sweet communion with God, and never complained of her hard life. Every morning she was at Mass, and afterwards went to kneel before Our Lady’s shrine. Germaine died one night in the year 1601, at the age of twenty-one, and was buried as was the custom in those days, in the village church. Forty-three years later, when a relative was to be buried near her and the stones were removed, the grave-digger found to his amazement, the body of a beautiful young girl in a state of perfect preservation. . . . Miracle after miracle occurred. . . See picture of Saint Germaine Cousin, Prayer of St. Germaine, Prayer to St. Germaine and  video: église saint germaine cousin l’hiver.
