General Rosary Intention: That the Lord in His Divine Mercy – through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary – may build up His Kingdom, make these mysteries a reality in our lives, strengthen us in our common mission, and come to the aid of those for whom we pray.

Africa (Green Beads)

Intention – That the Lord Jesus through the intercession of Saint Isadore the Farmer,  the Patron Saint of Farm Workers, may come to the aid of those affected by the destruction of crops by torrential rains in Burundi.  May the Lord help all those affected by man-made and natural disasters in Africa.

Disaster (Destruction of Crops by Rain) (2010) Map of Burundi. Extract from ARTICLES: ACT Alert: Torrential rains in the eastern Province of Ruyigi, Burundi. : “Torrential rains last week wrecked Gisuru commune in Burundi’s eastern province of Ruyigi. The rains affected individual households, public infrastructure and crops. Former refugees and Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) were heavily affected. . . . Households are struggling to find shelter. . . . Victims need rapid support to save what remains of their houses before the coming rainy season destroys them completely. . . . Support is also needed to help people establish small community livelihoods projects to recover from agricultural losses. Crops located in swamp areas were destroyed, as well as dry land crops like bananas, cassava and other fruit trees.” See ARTICLE: Burundi:Cibitoke Flood Operation n° MDRBI004 DREF Operation Final Report,

Saint Isadore the Farmer (Patron of Farm Workers) (Feast Date: May 15)Extract from Isidore the Farmer “Pious farmer. Married to Saint Mary de la Cabeza. Their son died young; they became convinced it was the will of God that they not have children, and they lived together chastely the rest of their lives, doing good works. Accused by fellow workers of shirking his duties by attending Mass each day, taking time out for prayers, etc. Isidore claimed he had no choice but to follow the highest Master. One tale says that when his master came in the morning to chastise him for skipping work for church, he found angels plowing the fields in place of Isidore. Miracles and cures reported at his grave, in which his body remains incorruptible.” See PICTURES of Saint Isadore the Farmer. Saint Gertrude of Nivelles (Patron Saint for Securing Accommodations or Lodging) (Feast Date: March 17) Extract from March 17th – St. Gertrude of Nivelles: “She was a daughter of Pepin I of Landen, and a younger sister of St. Begga, Abbess of Andenne. One day, when she was about ten years of old, her father invited King Dagobert and some noblemen to a banquet. When on this occasion she was asked to marry the son of the Duke of Austrasia she indignantly replied that she would marry neither him nor any other man, but that Christ alone would be her bridegroom. . . . There is a legend that one day she sent some of her subjects to a distant country, promising that no misfortune would befall them on the journey. When they were on the ocean, a large sea-monster threatened to capsize their ship, but disappeared upon the invocation of St. Gertrude.” See PICTURE of Saint Gertrude of Nivelles. Blessed Nicholas Bunkerd Kitbamrung (the first Thai priest to be beatified) (Memorial: January 12)Extract from Bl. Nicholas Bunkerd Kitbamrung: “While serving as a parish priest, he assisted the religious of the Salesian Order following their arrival in Thailand in 1927, teaching the priests his native tongue and training the seminarians in catechesis. Father Nicholas later labored in northern Thailand and elsewhere in the country to win the conversions of lapsed Catholics. He carried out his ministry under the shadow of an anti-Christian Thai government, which considered Catholics ‘unpatriotic.’ On the morning of January 12, 1941, Father Nicholas rang the church bell to summon parishioners to Sunday Mass. For this simple act he was arrested and sentenced to fifteen years of imprisonment. While in prison, Father Nicholas catechized his fellow prisoners, baptizing 68 of them. Unable to say his breviary, he found his consolation in reciting the rosary.” See PICTURES of Blessed Nicholas Bunkerd Kitbamrung.
