General Rosary Intention: That the Lord in His Divine Mercy – through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary – may build up His Kingdom, make these mysteries a reality in our lives, strengthen us in our common mission, and come to the aid of those for whom we pray.

Africa (Green Beads)

Intention – That the Lord Jesus through the intercession of Saint Francis of Assissi,  the Patron Saint of Peace, may come to the aid of those affected by continuing violence in Libya.  May the Lord help all those affected by man-made and natural disasters in Africa.

Disaster (Violent Clashes) (March, 2011) Map of Libya. Extract from: At a Libyan Hospital, Pride and a War’s True Cost Are Seen: “At Ajdabiya Hospital, a low-slung affair trimmed in cream and salmon, the guns have fallen silent, save for an occasional volley in the distance. Left to reckon with the aftermath are doctors who have volunteered from abroad, nurses who have traveled here from the rest of opposition-held Libya and what remains of the hospital’s staff, thrust into the middle of a protest that became an uprising and an uprising that has become a war. . . . ‘I never thought I would come here this way,” said Dr. Rida Mazagri, a soft-spoken volunteer neurosurgeon from Charleston, W.Va., who arrived two weeks ago. . . . Doctors here say 100 volunteers have joined him, from the United States, Egypt and South Africa, as well as from towns stretching from Benghazi to the Green Mountain region to Tobruk in the east. Aid organizations have sent supplies from Egypt and Qatar, and relief workers have managed to recover the dead and wounded from a mercurial battlefield where they said government troops seized two of their own this week. The staff takes pride in an oasis of organization in a region without it. ‘It functions,’ said Dr. Walid Saad, a surgeon who was scheduled to begin training in the United States this summer. ‘It’s not like the cities, where there are no police. It’s not like the rest of the country, where there are no more structures of government’ . . . . ‘It’s crazy, crazy,’ Dr. Omar Ali said as he watched. ‘The inhumanity.’” See also: Air attacks put Libya town on edge, Rebels forced from Libya oil port. Saint Francis of Assissi (Patron of Peace) (Feast Date: October 4) Extract fromWho was St. Francis?: “Francis of Assisi was a poor little man who astounded and inspired the Church by taking the gospel literally—not in a narrow fundamentalist sense, but by actually following all that Jesus said and did, joyfully, without limit and without a mite of self-importance. Serious illness brought the young Francis to see the emptiness of his frolicking life as leader of Assisi’s youth. Prayer—lengthy and difficult—led him to a self-emptying like that of Christ, climaxed by embracing a leper he met on the road. It symbolized his complete obedience to what he had heard in prayer: “Francis! Everything you have loved and desired in the flesh it is your duty to despise and hate, if you wish to know my will. And when you have begun this, all that now seems sweet and lovely to you will become intolerable and bitter, but all that you used to avoid will turn itself to great sweetness and exceeding joy.” See PICTURES of St. Francis. Oceania (Blue Beads)

Intention – That the Lord Jesus through the intercession of St. Mary, Our Lady Help of Christians,  the Patron Saint of Australia, may come to the aid of those affected by flash floods in Queensland, Australia.  May the Lord help all those affected by man-made and natural disasters in Oceania.
Disaster (Flash Floods) (March, 2011) Map of Australia Extract from Fresh floods hit Queensland towns: “Residents of Cardwell, one of Queensland’s worst-hit towns, are thigh-deep in water.
Rising waters have cut off Cardwell, Mission Beach, Tully Heads and Hull Heads; supplies of food and water are running short. More rain is expected in areas that were only just beginning to recover from the storm, which hit in February. Debris from Cyclone Yasi still litters the towns of northern Queensland. Roofs were ripped off houses and floods swept away possessions and hurt agricultural and mining incomes. The cyclone came as southern parts of Queensland cleaned up after weeks of severe floods. ‘It’s pretty devastating because just when you think you might be getting ahead, you find yourself another two steps behind,’ pensioner Rita Porter, from Cardwell, told reporters” . . . . Some residents have taken refuge, again, in evacuation centres. A spokesman from Emergency Management Queensland, Daryl Camp, said cleaning up after last month’s disasters was continuing. ‘Now we get the rain on top of it – you can see that the people aren’t taking it really well,’ he said. ‘It’s one more thing to add to their list of burdens.’ See also: Outback SA on flash flood alert:, Flash floods swamp cyclone-hit homes, Flash flooding in Australia on 6 March 2011 State of Queensland, [Bedourie and Windorah].

Saint Mary Our Lady Help of Christians (Patron Saint of Australia) (Feast Date: May 24) Extract fromMARY HELP OF CHRISTIANS Patroness of Australia: “‘Who was the patron selected by the people and their newly arrived pastor, Father Therry, for the Mother Church? Mary, the Immaculate Mother of God, under the special invocation of Help of Christians, was chosen patroness. In choosing Mary, the young Church was following a sure Catholic instinct. But why the particular title of Help of Christians? Events had happened in Europe only several years earlier, and this no doubt was still fresh in people’s minds. Napoleon Bonaparte had jailed Pope Pius VI who died in goal, after which Pope Pius VII was elected. . . . The Holy Father vowed to God that, if he were restored to the Roman See, he would institute a special feast in honour of Mary. Military reverses forced Napoleon to release the Pope (from jail), and on May 24th 1814, Pius VII returned in triumph to Rome. Twelve months later, the Pope decreed that the feast of Mary Help of Christians, be kept on the 24th of May. The infant Church in Australia had a special reason for turning to Mary. In those early and mostly priestless days, it was largely the Rosary that kept the faith alive. Catholic Australia remained faithful to Mary, and was the first nation to choose her, under the title of Help of Christians, as Principal Patroness.” See PICTURE of Saint Mary, Our Lady Help of Christians. The operation was carried out by the Serious and Organised Crime Unit of Thames Valley Police. Addresses raided included property in Oxford, Bicester, Wheatley and Headington. Detective Superintendent David Poole, who led the operation, said: ‘Today’s arrests are the culmination of an extensive investigation by Thames Valley Police. Saint Gregory the Great (Patron Saint of England) (Feast Date: September 3) Extract fromPope Gregory I (Multilingual), The Life of Saint Gregory the Great – Catholicism.org : “He was born around the year 540 of the last of the old Roman families illustrious for generations of noble achievement. His was, an even more lasting conquest, a family of saints. . . . . The Prefect Gregory, like his parents, disposed of his goods and dedicated himself to the service of his Lord in poverty, chastity and obedience. He became a Benedictine monk. Saint Gregory was not only faced with the saving of Rome, he was obliged to “create her anew.” The ancient city would have ceased to exist but for the “imperishable life which did not come from her but was stored up in her.” Under the guarding and administering hand of Gregory, the Rome of the Popes rose up from the ruins of the Rome of the Emperors. ‘At one time,’ he wrote, “I have to consider the affairs of churches and monasteries, often taking into account the lives and actions of individuals. At another time I have to represent my fellow citizens in their affairs. Again I have to groan over the swords of the barbarians advancing to storm us, and to dread the wolves which lie in wait for a flock huddled together in fear. Then, again, I must charge myself with the care of public affairs, to provide means even for those to whom the maintenance of order is entrusted, or I must patiently endure certain depredators, or take precautions against them, that tranquility be not disturbed. . . . If you love me, weep for me, since so many temporal businesses press on me that I seem as if this dignity had almost excluded me from the love of God. Not of the Romans only am I bishop, but bishop of the Lombards, whose right is the right of the sword, whose favor is punishment. The billows of the world so surge upon me that I despair of steering into harbor the frail vessel entrusted to me by God, while my hand holds the helm amid a thousand storms.” See PICTURES of Saint Gregory the Great. Saint Petronilla (Patron Saint of Travelers in Mountainous Regions) (Feast Date: May 31) St.Petronilla: “St. Petronilla is believed to have been the daughter of St. Peter. Until the XVII Century, she was called his physical daughter, and since then, she has been thought a spiritual daughter who was consecrated to his service. Legends quoted in Manichæan documents relate that Peter cured her of a palsy. Stories found in the writings of St. Marcellus (and retold in The Golden Legend) say that Peter, who thought his daughter too beautiful, asked God to afflict her with a fever, of which he refused to cure her until she began to be perfected in the love of God. . . . Traditions say she died a natural death, but accounts of her martyrdom can be found. . . . a basilica was built on the site of her tomb. In the VIII Century, Gregory III established a place of public prayer in the basilica, and her relics were translated to St. Peter’s, where a chapel was dedicated in her honor. Charlemagne (d. 814) and Carlomen (d. 771) were considered adopted sons of St. Peter, and they, along with the French monarchs who succeeded them, considered Petronilla their sister. Her chapel became the chapel of the kings of France. Her emblem, like that of St. Peter, is a set of keys.” See PICTURE of Saint Petronilla.  See also: Saint Petronilla(Multilingual), Saint Petronilla(EN), St. Petronilla(EN), Petronila, Santa(SP), Petronilla (Santa)(IT), 31 mai : Sainte Petronille, “patronne secondaire” de la France(FR), Św.
