General Rosary Intention: That the Lord in His Divine Mercy – through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary – may build up His Kingdom, make these mysteries a reality in our lives, strengthen us in our common mission, and come to the aid of those for whom we pray.

Africa (Green Beads)

Intention – That the Lord Jesus through the intercession of  St. Anthony of Padua,  the Patron Saint of those who are starving, may come to the aid of those affected by malnutrition in Chad.  May the Lord help all those affected by man-made and natural disasters in Africa.

Disaster (Malnutrition) Map of Chad. Extract from CHAD: Malnutrition outstrips response: DAKAR, 24 August 2010 (IRIN) – In parts of Chad acute malnutrition levels far exceed the international emergency threshold, according to a new study – fallout, partly, from crop failure hitting already fragile communities where access to basic health services is low and aid agencies are scarce. . . . ‘In the Sahel [region of Africa] we always have high malnutrition rates during the lean season, above the World Health Organization emergency threshold of 15 percent. . . But when we see numbers like 27 and 28 percent, it’s appalling., Of the roughly 102,000 children nationwide classified as having severe acute malnutrition, about half are in Chad’s Sahel band – a semi-arid zone some 500km wide stretching from near the capital N’djamena to the border with Sudan, according to UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF). . . . In Chad, UNICEF says, under-nutrition is also due to poor access to health services and safe drinking water, inappropriate infant feeding practices and a lack of trained staff in hard-hit areas. Malnutrition has been above the 15 percent threshold in Chad for a decade, according to UNICEF. Kalzeubé Payimi Deubet, governor of Barh El Gazel, lives about 100m from the main regional hospital. He says he sees malnourished children daily. “It is difficult just being in that atmosphere,” he told IRIN. ‘You have little children, their skin just sagging over bones – nothing but skin and bones.’” See also: International Organizations Tackle Chronic Malnutrition in Niger and Chad, April 8, 2011, Chad and 1 other Quarterly Cluster Report – Humanitarian response in Chad (January – March 2011). Saint Anthony of Padua (Patron Saint of those who are Starving) (Feast Date: June 13) Extract from St. Anthony of Padua: “Among the many miracles St. Anthony wrought in the conversion of heretics; the three most noted recorded by his biographers are the following: 1) The first is that of a horse, which, kept fasting for three days, refused the oats placed before him, till he had knelt down and adored the Blessed Sacrament, which St. Anthony held in his hands. Legendary narratives of the fourteenth century say this miracle took place at Toulouse, at Wadding, at Bruges; the real place, however, was Rimini. 2)  The second most important miracle is that of the poisoned food offered him by some Italian heretics, which he rendered innoxious by the sign of the cross.  3) The third miracle worthy of mention is that of the famous sermon to the fishes on the bank of the river Brenta in the neighbourhood of Padua; not at Padua, as is generally supposed. The zeal with which St. Anthony fought against heresy, and the great and numerous conversions he made rendered him worthy of the glorious title of Malleus hereticorum (Hammer of the Heretics). Though his preaching was always seasoned with the salt of discretion, nevertheless he spoke openly to all, to the rich as to the poor, to the people as well as those in authority.” See PICTURES of St. Anthony of Padua. Oceania (Blue Beads)

Intention – That the Lord Jesus through the intercession of Saint Michael the Archangel, the Patron Saint of Police Officers, may come to the aid of those affected by increasing terrorist attacks in Indonesia.  May the Lord help all those affected by man-made and natural disasters in Oceania.

Disaster (Terrorist Attacks) Map of Indonesia.  Extract from Indonesia ‘suicide bomber’ wounds 28 in mosque blast: “A suspected suicide bomber has attacked a mosque in Indonesia, killing himself and wounding 28 people. Most of the wounded are police officers, as the attack happened during Friday prayers at a mosque in a police compound in Cirebon, West Java. It is the first suspected suicide attack in the country in two years but follows a recent spate of letter bombs. . . . Witnesses said the man was sitting among worshippers when he set off the explosives. ‘He was praying. From the third row, suddenly there was a blast. I was at the last row,’ one witness named Anton was quoted as saying by Detik news website. ‘We suspect it was a suicide bombing,’ Indonesian police spokesman Anton Bachrul Alam said. ‘The police have been the most active in fighting terrorism and that is why they are furious with us,’ he added. The BBC’s Alice Budisatrijo in Jakarta says several high profile militants suspected of involvement in past bombings in Indonesia have recently been arrested or killed by the police. ‘It’s their revenge for what they see as injustice committed against them by the police and other authorities.’” See also:  Suicide bomber targets Indonesia mosque,  Indonesia’s Rash of ‘Do-It-Yourself Jihad’, Suicide bomb in Indonesia shows target shift-report, Suicide bomber hits Indonesian mosque, wounds 28, Indonesia Suicide Bombing Fits New Pattern of Attacking Local Targets. Saint Michael the Archangel (Patron Saint of Police Officers) (Feast Date: September 29) Extract from St. Michael–Archangel: “In the Apocalypse (chapter xii) we find the most dramatic reference to St. Michael. Here John recounts the great battle in Heaven, when the wicked angels under Lucifer revolt against God, and how Michael, leading the faithful angels, defeats the hosts of evil and drives them out. In this role he has been painted by many artists, and the poet Milton, in book vi of <Paradise Lost>, recounts the famous struggle. Because of this victory, St. Michael is revered in Catholic tradition and liturgy as the protector of the Church, as once he was regarded as the protector of the Israelites. In the Eastern Church, as well as among many theologians in the West, St Michael is placed over all the angels, as prince of the Seraphim. He is the special patron of sick people, mariners, and grocers; in Asia Minor many curative springs were dedicated to him. His cult has also been popular in Egypt, Rome, France, and Germany. His emblems are a banner, a sword, a dragon, and scales.”   See PICTURES of Saint Michael the Archangel.   See also: Saint Michael the Archangel: Patron Saint of Police Officers, Security Forces, Against all Evils, and of Samoa, Solomon Islands, Papua New Guinea, England, (Multilingual), PRAYER to St. Michael the Archangel.

Belarusian authorities say they have detained five people in connection with the blast. President Alyaksandr Lukashenka announced on April 13 that the main suspect and his accomplice have confessed to staging two other bombing attacks, one at an open-air concert in Minsk in 2008 and another at a cafe in Vitebsk in 2005. Both explosions injured dozens but caused no casualties. Lukashenka, who has been isolated by the West over his autocratic rule, said he did not rule out the involvement of foreign forces.” See also: Belarus bomb: ‘Two confessions’ by detained suspects. Saint Euphrosyne of Polotsk (Patron Saint of Belarus) (Feast Date: May 23) Extract fromEuphrosyne of Polatsk(Multilingual): “Euphrosyne . . . . (1110–1173) was the granddaughter of a prince of Polotsk, Vseslav. She refused all proposals of marriage and, without her parents’ knowledge, ran away to the convent of which her aunt was the abbess and became a nun. Later she founded her own convent. She spent her time copying books, and the money she thus earned she distributed amongst the poor. She also built two churches, and one, the church of The Holy Saviour, still stands today and is considered to be the most precious monument of early Belarusian architecture. Towards the end of her life, she undertook a pilgrimage to the Holy Land, where she died sometime after 1167. Her body, after the conquest of Jerusalem by Saladin in 1187, was carried by the monks to Kiev and deposited there in the Monastery of the Caves. It was only in 1910 that the relics of the saint were brought back to her native town of Polatsk. Euphrosyne is the only East Slav virgin saint. . . .  The cross of Saint Euphrosyne was a splendid gem-studded cross created at her behest by a local master, Łasar Bohša. The famous six-armed golden cross was decorated with enamels and precious stones and presented by her to the church of the Holy Saviour in 1161. Of exquisite beauty, the relic survived centuries of turbulence until World War II, when it mysteriously disappeared during the evacuation of the museum in 1941.” See PICTURE of Saint Euphrosyne of Polotsk. America (Red Beads)

Intention – That the Lord Jesus through the intercession of  St. Mary, Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary,  the Patron Saint of North Carolina, may come to the aid of those affected by Tornadoes in the United States.  May the Lord help all those affected by man-made and natural disasters in America.

Disaster (Tornadoes) (April, 2011) Map of the United States  Extract from Tornadoes 2011: Strangers Across 6 States Help Victims Cope:  “After a weekend of devastation and tragedy, Southerners are beginning to piece their lives back together. At least 44 people were killed in the severe weather that ripped across six southern states from Thursday to Saturday, reports the Associated Press. The National Weather Service is investigating 267 preliminary tornado reports, though the final total will be less, due to duplicate reports. Residents of Oklahoma, Virginia, North Carolina, Alabama, Arkansas and Mississippi are now tasked with rebuilding their lives in the face of destroyed homes, businesses and schools, as well as the loss of friends, family and neighbors. As with any tragedy, the silver lining is in the way communities and people throughout the country have come together to lend their support — even when they themselves have suffered devastating losses. Amid damage assessments and cleanup efforts, residents and officials alike are looking to make repairs and start rebuilding what was lost. Below is a look at some of the ways people across the country are helping .” See also: At least 40 killed in U.S. storms, as many as 14 in one NC county, Deadly Tornadoes Sweep Through Midwest, Homes, highways hit as deadly storms move east, Death toll rises to 17 as storms slam Deep South. Saint Mary, Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary (Patron Saint of North Carolina) (Feast Date: October 7) Extract from  To Our Lady of the Rosary: “O Virgin Mary, grant that the recitation of thy Rosary may be for me each day, in the midst of my manifold duties, a bond of unity in my actions, a tribute of filial piety, a sweet refreshment, an encouragement to walk joyfully along the path of duty. Grant, above all, O Virgin Mary, that the study of thy fifteen mysteries may form in my soul, little by little, a luminous atmosphere, pure, strengthening, and fragrant, which may penetrate my understanding, my will, my heart, my memory, my imagination, my whole being. So shall I acquire the habit of praying while I work, without the aid of formal prayers, by interior acts of admiration and of supplication, or by aspirations of love.” See PICTURE of  Our Lady of the Rosary.  See also: Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary, Patron Saint of Guatemala, North Carolina.

Asia (Yellow Beads)

Intention – That the Lord Jesus through the intercession of  Christina the Astonishing,  the Patron Saint against Mental Disorders, may come to the aid of those affected by Post-traumatic stress disorder in Japan.  May the Lord help all those affected by man-made and natural disasters in Asia.

Disaster (Psychological Trauma) Map of Japan Extract from Mayor of devastated town among survivors facing psychological effects: “Since disaster struck the Japanese town of Rikuzentakata a month ago, Mayor Futoshi Toba has made hundreds of decisions. But it’s the one he made just before the tsunami that bothers him most. When the wall of water was bearing down on his town, Toba faced an agonizing choice: Leave his post at city hall and race home to save his wife and children or stay to do what he could for the city. He stayed. Luckily, his two boys were in school and were able to get away to safety. But Toba’s wife disappeared in the waves of water that devastated the town. “She was missing and I wanted to go to find her,” he says staring out over his town. “Maybe I should have gone to find her. I think about that but still think I would do my duty again.” Her body wasn’t discovered until recently, and the 46-year-old mayor was only able to hold a ceremony and have her remains cremated a week ago. In the meantime, he has been working 16- to 18-hour days, scrambling to help survivors packed into temporary shelters and cope with the cleanup. The tsunami roared ashore, and one in 10 people in this town of 23,000 disappeared or died — including his wife. ‘I’ve told myself that this is the way it is meant to be,’ he says. ‘Now I’ve stopped struggling.’ But amidst the devastation around them, many tsunami survivors are increasingly struggling with the emotional and psychological devastation within themselves.” See also: Earthquake and Tsunami Hit Japan,Helping Kids in Japan: A Trauma Guide for Caregivers and Volunteers Working With Childre.,POST TRAUMATIC STRESS DISORDER IN JAPAN. Saint Christina the Astonishing (Patron Saint against Mental Disorders) (Feast Date: July 24) Extract from Christina the Astonishing (Multilingual) “also known as Christina Mirabilis, was a Christian holy-woman born in Brustem (near Sint-Truiden, Belgium) in 1150. She is sometimes considered a saint. Christina is as much remembered for her faith as for her numerous and violent fits of ecstasy. . . . When she was 21 (22 according to some sources), she is said to have suffered a massive seizure. According to the story, her condition was so severe that witnesses assumed she had died. A funeral was held, but during the service, she ‘arose full of vigor, stupefying with amazement the whole city of St Trond (Sint-Truiden), which had witnessed this wonder.’ She levitated up to the rafters, later explaining that she could not bear the smell of the sinful people there.[2] Then, ‘The astonishment increased when they learned from her own mouth what had happened to her after her death.’ She related that she had witnessed heaven, hell, and purgatory. It is written that she said ‘As soon as my soul was separated from my body it was received by angels who conducted it to a very gloomy place, entirely filled with souls’ where the torments there that they endured ‘appeared so excessive’ that it was ‘impossible to give an idea of their rigor.’ She continued, ‘I saw among them many of my acquaintances’ and touched deeply by their sad condition asked if this was Hell, but was told that it was Purgatory. Her angel guides brought her to Hell where again she recognized those she had formerly known. Next she was transported to Heaven, ‘even to the Throne of Divine Majesty’ where she was ‘regarded with a favorable eye.’” See PICTURE of Saint Christina the Astonishing.
