General Rosary Intention: That the Lord in His Divine Mercy – through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary – may build up His Kingdom, make these mysteries a reality in our lives, strengthen us in our common mission, and come to the aid of those for whom we pray.

Africa (Green Beads)

Intention – That the Lord Jesus through the intercession of  St. Emerentiana,  the Patron Saint against Abdominal Pain, may come to the aid of those affected by cholera in famine-ravaged Somalia. May the Lord help all those affected by man-made and natural disasters in Africa.

Disaster (Cholera) Map of Somalia. Extract from Cholera Outbreaks Spread Across Somalia, U.N. Says,:  “A cholera epidemic is sweeping across Somalia, the United Nations said on Friday, as thousands of starving people flee famine zones and pack into crowded camps in the capital, Mogadishu. According to the United Nations World Health Organization, 181 people have died from suspected cholera cases in a single hospital in Mogadishu, and there have been several other confirmed cholera outbreaks across the country. ‘We don’t see the end of it,’ said Tarik Jasarevic, a spokesman for the World Health Organization. ‘As long as we have people on the move, in crowded places and using contaminated water, we will see a rise in cases. All the causes are still there.’Parts of southern Somalia are in the grip of a famine, the result of years of conflict and one of the worst droughts in 60 years.” See also: UN Says Cholera Epidemic in Somalia, SOMALIA: Cholera hits crowded Mogadishu camps, Militia in Somalia bars food aid, rights group says. Saint Emerentiana (Patron Saint against Abdominal Pain) (Feast Date: January 23; September 16-Martyrologium Hieronymianum) Extract from: St. Emerentiana: “Martyr of Rome, in some traditions the foster sister of St. Agnes, stoned to death when discovered praying at Agnes’ grave. Emerentiana was possibly martyred elsewhere. Her cult was confined to local calendars in 1969.” See picture of Saint Emerentiana. Oceania (Blue Beads)

Intention – That the Lord Jesus through the intercession of  St. Francis de Sales,  the Patron Saint of Journalists, may come to the aid of those affected by the recent helicopter crash in Australia. May the Lord help all those affected by man-made and natural disasters in Oceania.

Disaster (Helicopter Crash) Map of Australia Extract from Tributes flood in for three of ABC’s finest: “PAUL Lockyer, for years a distinguished international correspondent, had become the ABC’s storyteller of the Australian bush; Gary Ticehurst could make a helicopter dance, manoeuvring into the precise spot for the best camera shot; and John Bean captured pictures that could make your heart stand still. Yesterday, all were gone, lost in a fireball near the eastern shore of Lake Eyre while doing what they loved best: making another story about Australia. ABC helicopter pilot Ticehurst, cameraman Bean and journalist Lockyer are believed to have died instantly on Thursday night when their helicopter – dubbed by slightly envious ABC colleagues as ”Lockyer’s ute” – crashed in the remote South Australian outback north-east of Marree as they finished their third documentary on the lake’s unusual flooding.” See also: Helicopter Crash Kills Three Australian Journalists, 3 Killed in Helicopter Crash in Southern Australia. Saint Francis de Sales, Patron Saint of Journalists (Feast Date: January 24) Extract from Saint Francis de Sales: “Born in the castle of Château de Thorens to a well-placed Savoyard family, the eldest of twelve children born to François de Boisy and Françoise de Sionnz. His parents intended that Francis become a lawyer, enter politics, and carry on the family line and power. He studied at La Roche and Annecy in France, taught by Jesuits. Attended the Collège de Clermont in Paris, France at age 12. In his early teens, Francis began to believe in pre-destination, and was so afraid that he was preemptorily condemned to Hell that he became ill and eventually was confined to bed. However, in January 1587 at the Church of Saint Stephen, he overcame the crisis, decided that whatever God had in store for him was for the best, and dedicated his life to God. . . . The value of his writings led to his being declared a Doctor of the Church by Pope Blessed Pius IX in 1877, and a patron of writers and journalists by Pope Pius XI in 1923. The Salesians of Don Bosco, the Oblates of Saint Francis de Sales, and the Missionaries of Saint Francis de Sales are named in his honour as is the Saint François Atoll in the Seychelles Islands.” See Picture of St. Francis de Sales. Saint Cecilia (Patron Saint of  Music) (Feast Date: November 22) Extract fromSt. Cecilia Third Century: The story of S. Cecilia is not without beauty and merit. There was in the city of Rome a virgin named Cecilia, who was given in marriage to a youth named Valerian. She wore sackcloth next to her skin, and fasted, and invoked the saints and angels and virgins, beseeching them to guard her virginity. And she said to her husband, “I will tell you a secret if you will swear not to reveal it to anyone.” And when he swore, she added, “There is an angel who watches me, and wards off from me any who would touch me.” He said, “Dearest, if this be true, show me the angel.” “That can only be if you will believe in one God, and be baptized.” She sent him to Pope S. Urban (223-230), who baptized him; and when he returned, he saw Cecilia praying in her chamber, and an angel by her with flaming wings, holding two crowns of roses and lilies, which he placed on their heads, and then vanished. Shortly after, Tibertius, the brother of Valerian, entered, and wondered at the fragrance and beauty of the flowers at that season of the year. When he heard the story of how they had obtained these crowns, he also consented to be baptized.”  See PICTURE of Saint Cecilia. America (Red Beads)

Intention – That the Lord Jesus through the intercession of  St. Mary, Our Lady of Providence,  the Patron Saint of Puerto Rico, may come to the aid of those affected by Hurricane Irene in that country. May the Lord help all those affected by man-made and natural disasters in America.

Disaster (Hurricane Irene)Extract from Hurricane Irene slams Puerto Rico: “SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico—Puerto Ricans awoke to flooded and debris-strewn streets Monday following the overnight passage of Hurricane Irene, which next took aim at the Dominican Republic on a path that could take the storm to the U.S. by the end of the week. The storm flooded streets, knocked down trees throughout the island, caused several rivers to overflow their banks and left more than a million Puerto Ricans without power. . . . In San Juan, dozens of people sought emergency shelter ahead of Irene, which was expected to dump up to 10 inches (25 centimeters) of rain in Puerto Rico. People also took shelter on the outlying islands of Culebra and Vieques, where authorities evacuated 150 tourists as the storm approached. Maria Antonia Ordonez, 59, said she secured the shutters of her house in historic Old San Juan after inviting neighbors over for dinner and wine. ‘You can hear the wind, the gusts are relentless,’ she said. ‘I can’t see anything because I’ve closed everything.’  See also: Hurricane Irene slams Puerto Rico, Hurricane Irene Leaves Destruction In Puerto Rico, Irene aims at Southeast U.S. after raking Puerto Rico, VIDEOS: Hurricane Irene blows through Puerto Rico, Hurricane Irene Slams Puerto Rico.

Saint Mary, Our Lady of Divine Providence (Patron Saint of Puerto Rico) (Feast Date: Saturday before 3rd Sunday of November) Extract fromOur Lady of Divine Providence: “Through her motherly prayers, Mary can influence the design of Divine Providence in our regard. Her intercession with God is more powerful than that of the Saints. When Jesus entrusted you to the care of His Mother, He gave her to you to be your very own. She proves her motherly love for you by providing for your spiritual and temporal needs. Appeal to your Mother of Divine Providence, for she both understands your needs and is most willing to help you O Lord God, be kind to us who approach Your Throne of Grace with confidence, that by the intercession of the most loving Mother of Divine Providence, we may obtain mercy and find help when we need it, through Christ our Lord. Amen. . . . . Pope Paul VI, by a decree signed on November 19, 1969, declared Our Lady Mother of Divine Providence principal patroness of the island of Puerto Rico.”See PICTURE of  Our Lady of Divine Providence. Asia (Yellow Beads)

Intention – That the Lord Jesus through the intercession of  St. Barnabas the Apostle,  the Patron Saint of Peace, may come to the aid of those affected by the recent attack on a mosque in Pakistan by a suicide bomber.  May the Lord help all those affected by man-made and natural disasters in Asia.

Disaster (Suicide Bombing Attack on Mosque) Map of Pakistan Extract from Dozens killed as suicide attacker hits Pakistan mosque: “A suicide bomber struck worshippers during prayers Friday at a mosque close to the Afghan border, killing 48 people in an attack one official said may have been aimed at anti-Taliban elders praying during the holy month of Ramadan. Militants have frequently attacked tribesmen who have dared speak up — or raise arms — against them in the border region, where al-Qaida and the Pakistan Taliban have long held sway. Rifts between insurgent factions have also led to mass casualty attacks there. Pakistan has lost more than 35,000 people in militant violence since 2007, with mosques, markets and hotels all targeted. But the attack was especially shocking because it came not only on Islam’s holiest day of the week, but also its holiest month, when observant Muslims fast during the daytime and spend extra time in prayer and communal activities. ‘Whoever did it in the holy month of Ramadan cannot be a Muslim,’ said Saleem Khan, who said that in the aftermath of the blast people ran over him to escape the scene. ‘It is the cruelest thing any Muslim would do,’ he said from his hospital bed in the main northwestern city of Peshawar, where he was being treated for his injuries.” See also: Scores killed in Pakistan mosque blast, Pakistan mosque attack death toll climbs.Videos: Pakistan blast kills at least 34, Dozens killed in attack at Pakistani mosque, Pakistan mosque suicide bomber kills dozens.

Saint Barnabas the Apostle (Patron Saint of Peace) (Feast Date: June 11) Extract from St. Barnabas (a biography): “Barnabas was an important person in the foundation of the early Church and the spread of the gospel. He is mentioned fairly often in the Acts of the Apostles and in several of Paul’s letters. He is honored with the title apostle. Barnabas was born in Cyprus. His given name was Joseph; the apostles gave him the Hebrew name Barnabas, which means ‘Son of Encouragement,’ in honor of his work in the church. (Acts 4:36) Joseph Barnabas was born into a Jewish family, members of the tribe of Levi. As Jews of the Diaspora living outside of Palestine, they would have spoken Greek. We don’t know when Barnabas came to Palestine. He may have been in the company of disciples who traveled with Jesus; some of the early church writers thought so. If he did not know Jesus before the crucifixion, Barnabas heard the apostles’ preaching very soon after Pentecost. Barnabas believed in the power of the gospel message to change people’s hearts. . . . “ See PICTURE of St. Barnabas the Apostle.
