“When the World Mission Rosary is completed, one has embraced all continents, all people in prayer.”
Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen
General Rosary Intention: That the Lord in His Divine Mercy – through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary – may build up His Kingdom, make these mysteries a reality in our lives, strengthen us in our common mission, and come to the aid of those for whom we pray.
Africa (Green Beads)
Intention – That the Lord Jesus through the intercession of St. Patrick, the Patron Saint of Nigeria, may come to the aid of those affected by violent protests in that country. May the Lord help all those affected by man-made and natural disasters in Africa.
Disaster (Violent Protests) Map of Nigeria. Extract from Nigerian Protesters Erect Burning Roadblock Outside Wealthy Area.: “Angry youths have erected a burning roadblock outside a wealthy enclave in Nigeria’s commercial capital as a paralysing national strike over fuel prices and government corruption enters its second day. The flaming tyres and debris sent thick, dark smoke over part of Ikoyi Island, home to diplomats and many of the oil-rich nation’s wealthy elite. It also signalled the danger of spiralling violence as protests continue in the country of more than 160 million people. Police shot dead at least three protesters on Monday. ‘This is oligarchy; this is not a democracy,’ shouted Danjuma Mohammed as he stood before the fire holding rocks in his hands. “’e are no longer afraid of you. We are ready for war.’ The strike was started by labour unions upset over high fuel prices in Africa’s most populous nation. Gas prices have risen from 45 cents (30p) a litre to at least 94 cents since the subsidy on fuel ended on 1 January on the orders of President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration. That spurred a rise in food and transportation prices across the country, where most people live on less than $2 a day.” See also: Nigerian fuel protests grow, 13 killed in attacks, Minna riot: Nigeria curfew in Niger state, Videos: Nigerian fuel protests turn deadly, What is behind Nigeria fuel protests? Saint Patrick (Patron Saint of Nigeria) (Feast Date: March 17) Extract from St. Patrick: “Legends about Patrick abound; but truth is best served by our seeing two solid qualities in him: He was humble and he was courageous. The determination to accept suffering and success with equal indifference guided the life of God’s instrument for winning most of Ireland for Christ. . . . Patrick may have been born in Dunbarton, Scotland, Cumberland, England, or in northern Wales. He called himself both a Roman and a Briton. At 16, he and a large number of his father’s slaves and vassals were captured by Irish raiders and sold as slaves in Ireland. Forced to work as a shepherd, he suffered greatly from hunger and cold. After six years, Patrick escaped, probably to France, and later returned to Britain at the age of 22. His captivity had meant spiritual conversion. . . . His great desire was to proclaim the Good News to the Irish. In a dream vision it seemed “all the children of Ireland from their mothers’ wombs were stretching out their hands” to him. He understood the vision to be a call to do mission work in pagan Ireland. . . . Because of the island’s pagan background, Patrick was emphatic in encouraging widows to remain chaste and young women to consecrate their virginity to Christ.” See PICTURE of Saint. Oceania (Blue Beads)
Intention – That the Lord Jesus through the intercession of St. Andrew Avellino, the Patron Saint against Sudden Death, may come to the aid of those affected by the hot air balloon crash in New Zealand. May the Lord help all those affected by man-made and natural disasters in Oceania.
Disaster (Hot Air Balloon Crash)Map of New Zealand Extract from N.Z. Investigates Hot Air Balloon Crash That Killed 11: “New Zealand police are investigating why a hot air balloon hit electrical wires and crashed in flames two days ago, killing 11 people. At least six agencies are probing the crash with formal identification of the bodies expected to take ‘several days,’ New Zealand police said in an e-mailed statement yesterday. The pilot and all 10 of the passengers on board are believed to be from New Zealand, police said. The balloon struck power lines and caught fire as it was preparing to land after a 45-minute flight near Carterton, about 50 miles (80 kilometers) northeast of the capital, Wellington, according to police. After flames erupted, a male and a female jumped from the basket to their deaths and the craft made a sharp ascent before crashing to the ground and killing those still on board. The investigation ‘is not a quick process and will take some time to complete,’ Wairarapa Area Commander Inspector Brent Register said in the statement. The bodies of all 11 victims have been removed from the scene, Register said in a separate statement today. Police and other agencies met again with the families of those killed to “keep them abreast of investigations currently under way,’ he said.” See also: Hot air balloon crash kills 11 in New Zealand, Hot air balloon crashes in New Zealand killing 11. Saint Andrew Avellino (Patron Saint against Sudden Death) (Feast Date: November 10) Extract from St. Andrew Avellino, Confessor: “St. Andrew Avellino was born at Castro Nuovo, in the kingdom of Naples. To fear God and to avoid sin, were the maxims which his mother, from early childhood, implanted deep into his heart, and which became the rule of his entire life. While he studied at Senise, a lady sought to attract him by several presents which she sent him, but the chaste youth accepted not her gifts, and sent her word saying that she should trouble him no more, and might rest assured that he would rather die than consent to any evil. On another occasion when he was enticed to sin, he fled like the chaste Joseph. To escape similar temptations, he determined to become a priest, and was ordained after he had finished his studies. For some time he devoted himself to the practice of Canon Law in the ecclesiastical courts; until one day, in the heat of his argument, a trivial lie escaped him. Soon after, while reading the holy Scriptures, the words, ” The mouth that lieth, killeth the soul,” came under his eyes, and his repentance was such that, from that moment, he renounced his profession in order to escape from the danger of offending God, and gave himself entirely to the sacred ministry.” See PICTURE of St. Andrew Avellino. Europe (White Beads)
Intention – That the Lord Jesus through the intercession of St. Bridget of Sweden, the Patron Saint of Europe, may come to the aid of those affected by flooding in the Netherlands. May the Lord help all those affected by man-made and natural disasters in Europe.
Disaster (Flooding-Broken Dike) Map of Netherlands Extract from Hundreds evacuated amid Dutch dike break fears: “Police and military personnel began evacuating 800 people from four villages in the low-lying northern Netherlands on Friday amid fears of a dike break following days of drenching rains. Authorities said that a section of the dike along a major canal could give way and submerge hundreds of hectares (acres) of land under up to 1.5 meters (5 feet) of water. ‘The chance is small’ the dike will break, said Yvonne van Mastrigt, chairman of the regional policy team that ordered the evacuation. “But in the interests of security of people and livestock I must take this decision.” The evacuations 200 kilometers (125 miles) north of Amsterdam come after a combination of torrential rain and powerful northwesterly winds have soaked the country and prevented water being pumped out to sea. A quarter of the Netherlands is below sea level and 55 percent of the country is considered susceptible to flooding, but the country has learned to live with the ever-present threat of high water, and devastating floods are rare. Residents forced to leave their homes were advised to stay with friends or families but a makeshift evacuation center also was opened in a nearby sports hall.” See aso: Dutch on Flood Watch as Storms Hit Flights, Shipping, Farmland, Storms, flooding prompt Dutch evacuations. Saint Bridget of Sweden (Patron Saint of Europe) (Feast Date: July 23) Extract fromSt. Bridget of Sweden (1303-1373): “St. Bridget had the gift of prophecy and worked many marvellous cures. Once widowed, she lived an ascetic life, eating very little, sleeping short hours, and praying continually. She followed a strict rule and practiced every possible kind of charitable work, even reducing herself to begging. She received constant inspirations which were either taken down by her chaplain and put into Latin, thus becoming known as her ‘Revelations,’ or took the form of letters to the succeeding popes, cardinals, and secular rulers of the day, telling them of their wickedness and how to reform their lives. Both in Sweden and in Rome she was either hated violently or loved as a saint. ‘Strong and full of courage,’ she was ‘homely and kind and had a laughing face.’” See also: July 23 – Saint Bridget of Sweden: Patron Saint of Europe, VIDEOS: St. Bridget of Sweden, SAINTS SPEAK: St. Birgitta of Sweden (Holy Mary), PRAYERS of St. Bridget of Sweden.
America (Red Beads)
Intention – That the Lord Jesus through the intercession of St. Mary, the Lady Who Appeared (Our Lady Aparecida) the Patron Saint of Brazil, may come to the aid of those affected by flooding there. May the Lord help all those affected by man-made and natural disasters in America.
Disaster (Flooding) Map of Brazil Extract from Landslide kills eight in Brazil’s Rio de Janeiro state: “A least eight people have been killed in a landslide in Brazil. Emergency workers said 14 people could still be buried in the mud in Jamapara, in Rio de Janeiro state. Officials said rescuers had only been able to reach the site by helicopter after the main road to the town was cut off by torrential rain. The landslide happened in the same area where thousands of people were evacuated last week when heavy rains caused a dam to burst. Local residents said they were woken by a sound which resembled that of an explosion. Nine houses were buried in the mud. . . . One family is believed to have been buried in their car. Their neighbours said they had slept in the car for fear their house could be swept away. On Monday, the government launched an emergency plan to deal with the torrential rains which have affected the southeastern states of Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais and Espirito Santo. Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff approved a fund of $240m (£155m) to help communities affected by the rains. Heavy rains and landslides are not uncommon in the mountainous area of Rio de Janeiro state. A year ago, more than 1,300 people died or went missing during a particularly wet season.” See also: Burst dike forces thousands to flee Brazil town, Dike bursts in southeastern Brazil, forcing thousands to flee town. Saint Mary, the Lady Who Appeared (Our Lady Aparecida) (Patron Saint of Brazil) (Feast Date: October 12) Extract from Our Lady of Aparecida – Patroness of Brazil: “In October of 1717, Dom Pedro de Almedida, travelled from Sao Paulo to Minas Gerais. During his journey, he passed through a small city in the Paraiba river valley called Guaratinqueta.
During his time there, the local people had decided to put together a great party that would require an incredible number of fish. Gathered together were three fishermen who had a special devotion to Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception. Prior to fishing, all three men plead to God that they would be blessed with more than enough fish. At that time, one of the men named Felipe Pedroso got on his knees swiftly and prayed saying, ‘Mother of God and our Mother; we need to find fish!’ Lone and behold, after not being able to find anything for hours, they cast their net out for a final time near the Port of Itaguagu. To their amazement, they hauled in the body of a statue, as well as the statue’s head. After cleaning the statue, they discovered that it was Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception. They named the statue Our Lady of Aparecida. They wrapped a statue they found in cloth and continued to fish. All of a sudden, through the grace of God, their nets were full.” See PICTURE of Our Lady Aparecida. Asia (Yellow Beads)
Intention – That the Lord Jesus through the intercession of St. Genevieve, the Patron Saint against Disasters, may come to the aid of those affected by flooding and landslides in Mindanao, Philippines. May the Lord help all those affected by man-made and natural disasters in Asia.
Disaster (Landslides) Map of Philippines Extract from Philippine mines to ‘close’ after landslide: “The Philippine government has ordered the shutdown of gold-mining tunnels in the country’s south after a deadly landslide left at least 34 people dead and up to 150 more missing. Mines that sit in the danger zone will be ordered shut, and the workers and their families living on the mountain on Mindanao island would be relocated, Jesse Robredo, the Philippine interior secretary, said on Friday. Earlier, rescue operations resumed to search for the missing when a rock and mud avalanche buried a mountainside township of gold prospectors who had refused to leave despite being warned of dangers. It was the area’s second deadly landslide in a year and prompted the environment secretary to call for curbing permits in the region’s small-scale gold-mining industry dotted with mine shafts and crude shanties in Napnapan village in Pantukan township. A group of volunteers prepared to go up the gold rush site to help about 140 soldiers and police there, who resumed the search at dawn as the rains ceased, Lieutenant-Colonel Lyndon Paniza, a local military spokesman, said. Al Jazeera’s Jamela Laindogan, reporting from Manila, the Philippine capital, said progress is slow as the area is very remote and only accessible by trail.” See also: Search continuing for Philippine landslide missing. Saint Genevieve (Patron Saint against Disasters) (Feast Date: January 3) Extract fromSt. Genevieve: “St. Genevieve was born about the year 422, at Nanterre near Paris. She was seven years old when St. Germain of Auxerre came to her native village on his way to great Britain to combat the heresy of Pelagius. The child stood in the midst of a crowd gathered around the man of God, who singled her out and foretold her future sanctity. At her desire the holy Bishop led her to a church, accompanied by all the faithful, and consecrated her to God as a virgin. When Attila was reported to be marching on Paris, the inhabitants of the city prepared to evacuate, but St. Genevieve persuaded them to avert the scourge by fasting and prayer, assuring them of the protection of Heaven. The event verified the prediction, for the barbarian suddenly changed the course of his march. The life of St. Genevieve was one of great austerity, constant prayer, and works of charity. She died in the year 512. . . . She dressed in a long flowing gown with a mantle covering her shoulders, similar to the type of garments the Blessed Mother wore. One of the symbols of this saint is a loaf of bread because she was so generous to those in need.” See also: January 3: Saint Genevieve: Patron Saint against Disasters, Drought (Multilingual), VIDEOS: Saint Genevieve (January 3), St Genevieve- confirmation name.
