General Rosary Intention: That the Lord in His Divine Mercy – through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary – may build up His Kingdom, make these mysteries a reality in our lives, strengthen us in our common mission, and come to the aid of those for whom we pray.

Africa (Green Beads)

Intention – That the Lord Jesus through the intercession of Bl. Angela Truszkowska, the Patron Saint of the Sick, may come to the aid of those affected by the medicine shortage in Timbuktu, Mali. May the Lord help all those affected by man-made and natural disasters in Africa.

Disaster: Medicine Shortage Map of Mali Extract from Rebel-held Timbuktu in dire need of medicines – charity head: “The only functioning hospital in the rebel-held northern Malian town of Timbuktu is running out of medical supplies and urgently needs restocking so doctors can save lives, the head of a medical charity operating there has warned. The shortage of medicines is particularly critical for people suffering from chronic diseases such as diabetes and hypertension who need to take medication regularly, said Thierry Allafort-Duverger, director general of the Alliance for International Medical Action (ALIMA). . . . ‘Our teams have seen diabetic patients who have come to the hospital in a state of coma due to the lack of insulin,’ Allafort-Duverger, said on the phone from Bamako, the capital of Mali. The shortage of drugs is compounding an already dire medical situation in Timbuktu which only has a handful of doctors, nurses and pharmacists left after other medical staff fled the town when it was captured on April 1, he added. . . . Unexploded ordnance left over from the (recent) unrest poses an additional danger. ‘We had three children that were brought to hospital injured because they were playing with an unexploded ordnance, unfortunately two died (on Wednesday),’ Allafort-Duverger said.” Read about the CTF/SOS DRS latest response to Disasters in Africa.

Blessed Angela Truszkowska: Patron Saint of the Sick (Feast Date: October 10, October 11) Extract from October 10: Blessed Angela Maria Truszkowska: “As a child and adolescent, Sophia was drawn to prayer and genuine compassion for others. As a young woman, she devoted herself to working for the poor and needy. Her spirituality was strengthened by a deep passion for Jesus in the Eucharist, a tender love for the Blessed Mother, and devotion to St. Francis of Assisi. On November 21, 1855, as Franciscan tertiaries, Sophia and her cousin knelt before the icon of Mary and dedicated themselves to do the will of her Son. For the Felician Sisters, this day became the founding day of the Congregation. Every aspect of the life of Mother Mary Angela, Foundress of the Felician Sisters, reflected her concern for the spiritual growth of all people and care for their temporal needs. Her mission was sustained by her selfless love of God and desire to do his will.” See also: October 10, October 11 – Blessed Mary Angela Truszkowska: Patron Saint of the Sick.

Oceania (Blue Beads)

Intention – That the Lord Jesus through the intercession of St. Brendan the Navigator, the Patron Saint of Mariners and Travellers, may come to the aid of those missing or killed in Palau. May the Lord help all those affected by man-made and natural disasters in Oceania.

Disaster: Missing Persons, Murder Map of Palau Extract from Chinese fisherman killed off Palau:“A Chinese fisherman is dead after Republic of Palau police officers fired at his boat, believed to be fishing illegally off the Pacific island nation. An American pilot and two Palau police officers in a Cessna tracking the fishing boat are missing after reporting they were running out of fuel. The Coast Guard is in its third day of searching. Joining the search is a mega-yacht owned by Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen, who visited nearby Guam about a week ago. Palau presidential spokesman Fermin Meriang tells Pacific Daily News officers fired when the fishing boat tried to ram their boat Sunday. . . . Palau is some 500 miles east of the Philippines.” See also: Palau urged to compensate Chinese fisherman.

Saint Brendan the Navigator: Patron Saint of Mariners and Travelers (Feast Date: May 16) Extract from Commemoration of St. Brendan of Ardfert and Clonert: “St. Brendan (Brendan the Voyager, Brendan the Navigator) belongs to that glorious period in the history of Ireland when the island, in the first glow of conversion to Christianity, sent forth its earliest messengers of the Faith to the continent and to the regions of the sea. The stories of Saint Brendan voyaging over perilous waters were popular in the Middle Ages, and his travels were as well known as the wanderings of Ulysses. . . . Over the years there have been many interpretations of the possible geographical position of this island. Belief in the existence of the island was almost completely abandoned when a new theory arose, maintained by those who claim for the Irish the glory of discovering America. This claim rests in part on the account of the Vikings who found a region south of the Chesapeake Bay called ‘Irland ed mikla’ (Greater Ireland), and on stone carvings discovered in West Virginia dated between 500 and 1000 A.D. Analysis by archaeologist Robert Pyle and language expert Barry Fell indicate that these carvings are written in Old Irish using the Ogham alphabet. According to Fell, ‘the West Virginia Ogham texts are the oldest Ogham inscriptions anywhere in the world. They exhibit the grammar and vocabulary of Old Irish . . . .  ‘It seems possible that the scribes that cut the West Virginia inscriptions may have been Irish missionaries in the wake of Brendan’s voyage, for these inscriptions are Christian. Early Christian symbols such as Chi-Rho monograms (Name of Christ) and the Dextra Dei (Right Hand of God) appear at the sites . . . .’” See PICTURE of St. Brendan the Navigator. Disaster: Economic Hardship Map of Wales Extract from Women still hit hardest by job losses with 4,000 more unemployed,: “The number of people out of work in Wales increased by 1,000 in the three months to February, compared to previous three months, new figures show. But women continue to be harder hit by job losses, with an extra 4,000 out of work in the three months, compared to the 3,000 men who left the unemployment figures. There were 131,000 people out of work during the period, figures from the Office for National Statistics said this morning. However, the figure for December to February was down from the 134,000 out of work between November and January. Across the UK unemployment was 2.65m in December to February, down 35,000 on previous three months, the first fall since Spring 2011. Despite the small rise in the number of people out of work, the unemployment rate has fallen to 8.9%. The number of people in employment jumped by more than 15,000 in the three months to February, from 1,461,000 to 1,477,000. The increase in the number of people working may be due to the fall in number of people classed as economically inactive in Wales, which dropped by 11,000 in the three months to February to 974,000.” See also: Unemployment increase for women.

Saint David of Wales: Patron Saint of Wales (Feast Date: March 1) Extract from David of Wales, : “After a vision in his monastery in the Rhos Valley, he set out next day with two monks to Jerusalem to aid the Patriarch. Legend says that once while he was preaching, a dove descended to his shoulder to show he had the blessings of the Spirit, and that the earth rose to lift him high above the people so that he could be heard by them all. Another time when was preaching to a crowd at Llandewi Brefi, people on the outer edges could not hear, so he spread a handkerchief on the ground, stood on it, and the ground beneath rose up in a pillar so all could hear.” See also: March 1: Saint David of Wales, Patrons Saint of Wales, PRAYERS to Saint David.

Saint Mary, Our Lady of Victory (Our Lady of the Rosary): Patron Saint of the United States (Feast Dates: March 23, October 7) Extract from The History of the Feast of Our Lady of Victory: “How did this extraordinary victory come about? The answer is simple enough: It was obtained – yet again – by the most powerful weapon known to men: the holy rosary- the chaplet of the Blessed Virgin Mary given to St. Dominic in the XIIIth century. In preparation for this battle, one of the greatest naval battles of Roman Christendom, the Pope, St. Pius V, (himself a Dominican friar) ordered that the holy rosary be prayed throughout the length and breadth of Christendom – just as was later to be done before the Battle of Vienna in 1683. As a result, the feast of Our Lady of Victory (later our Lady of the Rosary) was instituted by the popes to be celebrated on October 7th for an everlasting memory of this great victory.” See PICTURE of Our Lady of Victory. There, he commanded 10 men who’d break into houses seeking to arrest men whose names they’d been given by the country’s intelligence agencies. ‘They gave us orders: ‘You are free to do what you like,’ ‘ he recalled.” VIDEOS: Torture of children, rape by Syrian army ‘routine,’ ex-soldiers say, Rape, Terror And Murder Of Syrian Refugees. Upon her continued refusal, Vivian was imprisoned in a mad house, then flogged to death. A church was built over her grave, in the garden of which grew an herb that cured headache and epilepsy.
