Saint Mary, Our Lady of Loreto: Patron Saint of Aviation (Feast Dates: May 9, November 10, December 10) Extract from Our Lady of Loreto: “The title Our Lady of Loreto refers to the Holy House of Loreto, the house in which Mary was born, and where the Annunciation occurred, and to an ancient statue of Our Lady which is found there. Tradition says that a band of angels scooped up the little house from the Holy Land, and transported it first to Tersato, Dalmatia in 1291, then Recanati, Italy in 1294, and finally to Loreto, Italy where it has been for centuries. It was this flight that led to her patronage of people involved in aviation, and the long life of the house that has led to the patronage of builders, construction workers, etc. It is the first shrine of international renown dedicated to the Blessed Virgin, and has been known as a Marian center for centuries. Popes have always held the Shrine of Loreto in special esteem, and it is under their direct authority and protection.” See PICTURE of Our Lady of Loreto. See also: NOVENA TO OUR LADY OF LORETO. Not called to be married to a believer or unbeliever but called to fully dedicate her life to Christ, Agrippina confessed in public her faith in Christ as Savior for which she was tortured. After being beaten, tradition says, she was chained by the government yet released by an angel. She died from her torture. Initially, Saint Agrippina was buried in Sicily by three Christian women: Bassa, Paula and Agathonice; her relics were later transfered to Constantinople.” PICTURE of Saint Agripinna. Saint Olga of Kiev (Feast Date: July 11) Extract from Prominent Russians: Princess Olga of Kiev: “Princess Olga’s life was full of great deeds described in numerous historical records . . . .The Old Russian annals describe four types of vengeance organized by Olga. First, she ordered the capture of the 20 matchmakers who had come to Kiev and had them buried alive. The Princess then asked the Drevlyans to send better ambassadors to her, but as soon as they arrived, they were burned in a bathhouse. Soon after that Olga went to the land of the Drevlyans, supposedly to have a funeral feast in memory of her murdered husband. Having made her enemies drunk during the feast, the governess then ordered them all killed. The annals report about five thousand victims in this third act of revenge. The last vengeance took place in the year 946 when Olga traveled around the land of the Drevlyans in order to gather tributes. She besieged the town of Iskorosten, which refused to pay her. According to legend, the Princess asked that each household present her with a dove as a gift. Then she tied burning papers to the legs of the doves and let them fly back to their homes. As a result, the entire town was destroyed by fire. . . One of the most well-known among Olga’s actions was her conversion to Christianity. She was one of the first to bring this religion to the pagan society of Kievan Rus. According to the Primary Chronicles, Olga was baptized in Constantinople either in 955 or 957. Her son Svyatoslav didn’t support his mother’s decision and was worried about losing the respect of the army because of Olga’s new faith. Apparently, she had a big influence on her grandson, Vladimir the Great, who in 988 made Christianity the official religion of Kievan Rus. . . . In 1547 the Orthodox Church proclaimed Princess Olga a saint and equal-to-the-apostles. She became one of only five women to be honored with this status in the history of Christianity.” See PICTURE of St. Olga. America (Red Beads)
Intention – That the Lord Jesus through the intercession of St. John of God, the Patron Saint against Fire, may come to the aid of those affected by wildfires in the United States. May the Lord help all those affected by man-made and natural disasters in America.
Disaster: Wildfires Map of United States Extract from Hundreds flee wildfires in Colorado, New Mexico: “Firefighters on Sunday were battling wildfires that spread quickly in parched forests in Colorado and New Mexico, forcing hundreds of people from their homes and the evacuation of wolves from a sanctuary. The Colorado fire, in a mountainous area about 15 miles west of Fort Collins, grew to 31 square miles within about a day of being reported, destroying or damaging 18 structures. In southern New Mexico, strong winds grounded aircraft fighting a 40-square-mile wildfire near the mountain community of Ruidoso. Crews were working to build a fire line around the blaze, which started Friday and has damaged or destroyed 36 structures. . . .
the number of Ruidoso evacuees was in the hundreds. Elsewhere Sunday, firefighters were battling a wildfire that blackened 6 square miles in Wyoming’s Guernsey State Park and forced the evacuation of 500 to 1,000 campers and visitors. Cooler weather was helping firefighters in their battle against two other wildfires in southern Utah. . . . Authorities say it’s the worst fire in Larimer County in about 25 years. . . . The speed of the fire’s spread has dashed any hope of containment for the time being. ‘These folks are doing everything they can,’ Larimer County Sheriff Justin Smith said, ‘but Mother Nature is running this fire.’” See also:

Saint John of God: Patron Saint of Firefighters (Feast Date: March 8) Extract from Saint John of God: “Juan grew up working as a shepherd in the Castile region of Spain. He led a wild and misspent youth, and travelled over much of Europe and north Africa as a soldier in the army of Charles V, and as a mercenary. Fought through a brief period of insanity. Peddled religious books and pictures in Gibraltar, though without any religious conviction himself. In his 40′s he received a vision of the Infant Jesus who called him John of God. To make up for the misery he had caused as a soldier, he left the military, rented a house in Granada, Spain, and began caring for the sick, poor, homeless and unwanted. He gave what he had, begged for those who couldn’t, carried those who could not move on their own, and converted both his patients and those who saw him work with them.” See PICTURE of St. John of God. Asia (Yellow Beads)
Intention – That the Lord Jesus through the intercession of St. Alban Bartholomew Roe, the Patron Saint of Refugees, may come to the aid of those affected by violence and displacement in Myanmar. May the Lord help all those affected by man-made and natural disasters in Asia.
Disaster (Refugees- Violence, Displacement and Trafficking) Map of Myanmar Extract from Displaced in Myanmar’s Kachin state need aid -local groups,: “A year after fighting broke out in Myanmar between the army and ethnic Kachin rebels, tens of thousands of people remain displaced living in squalid conditions with little aid, local organisations said on Friday. Around 65,000 Kachins, mainly women and children, have fled their homes in the country’s north and remain trapped in the jungles along the border with China, according to the Kachin Women’s Association – Thailand (KWAT), which has been documenting the situation since fighting started. KWAT believe an additional 10,000 have crossed over to China. Since December, the United Nations has on three occasions sent teams to visit the conflict-affected areas, but local groups say aid is limited. ‘Most internally displaced people are reliant on aid from non-governmental organisations and the church,’ said Nawdin Lahpai of the Kachin News Group, a news organisation in the area. On Tuesday, Kachin organisations and communities around the world sent a letter to Myanmar’s President Thein Sein, who has twice ordered the army stop the offensive. ‘Fighting has occurred every day and has recently intensified, forcing more and more people to flee their homes … (The displaced are) living in squalid conditions with nowhere to go,’ the letter said.” See also: “The Lady” brings hope to Burmese refugees, Traffickers target displaced Kachin on Chinese border, Fighting and Ongoing Displacement in Kachin State, Burma, Kachin News.. Saint Alban Bartholomew Roe: Patron Saint of Refugees (Feast Date: January 21) Extract fromST. ALBAN ROE(Bartholomew Roe 1583-1642): “. . .one of the Forty English martyrs canonized by the Church. Bartholomew Roe was born at Suffolk, England, in 1583 during the reign of Queen Elizabeth. He was reared in a good Anglican home and later attended Cambridge University. It was while he was attending this university, during a summer break, that he visited the Abbey of St. Alban just north of London. At that time, the Abbey was a prison for Catholics. It was named after the first English martyr, Alban who died around the end of the third century. . . . It was at this Abbey that Bartholomew met a prisoner, whose name is unknown to this day, who inspired him to take a good hard look at the faith of forefathers. Returning to Cambridge, this inspiration grew into faith and he was baptized. Not content with this, he decided to become a priest in Post Reformation England, he left for France to study for the priesthood. He was accepted by the Benedictine Community in France, the same community that had fled Westminister during the reign of Henry VIII. He began to care for Catholic prisoners. He was soon imprisoned but continued his ministry with his good disposition. He was finally ordered to die by hanging on January 21, 1642. He was declared Blessed on December 15, 1929 and canonized on October, 1970.” See PICTURE of Saint Alban Bartholomew Roe.
