Africa (Green Beads)
Intention – That the Lord Jesus through the intercession of St. Mary, Our Lady of Mercy, may come to the aid of those affected by the terrorist attack on the United States consulate in Libya. May the Lord help all those affected by man-made and natural disasters in Africa.
Disaster: Terrorist Attack on U.S. Consulate Map of Libya Extract from Libya Attack Brings Challenges for U.S.: “Islamist militants armed with antiaircraft weapons and rocket-propelled grenades stormed a lightly defended United States diplomatic mission in Benghazi, Libya, late (September 11), killing the American ambassador and three members of his staff and raising questions about the radicalization of countries swept up in the Arab Spring. The ambassador, J. Christopher Stevens, was missing almost immediately after the start of an intense, four-hour firefight for control of the mission, and his body was not located until Wednesday morning at dawn, when he was found dead at a Benghazi hospital, American and Libyan officials said. It was the first time since 1979 that an American ambassador had died in a violent assault. American and European officials said that while many details about the attack remained unclear, the assailants seemed organized, well trained and heavily armed, and they appeared to have at least some level of advance planning. But the officials cautioned that it was too soon to tell whether the attack was related to the anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks.” See also: 6 things to know about the Libya attack, Libya ‘arrests 50’ over Benghazi US consulate deaths. Saint Mary, Our Lady of Mercy (Feast Date: September 24) Extract from Extract from: September 24 – Feast of Our Lady of Ransom: “The world goes on its laborious way, proud of its riches, of its power, of its arms, of its genius; the Church goes onward along the course of ages with an even step, trusting in God only, to Whom, day and night, she lifts her eyes and her suppliant hands. Even though in her prudence she neglects not the human aid which Providence and the times afford her, not in these does she put her trust, which rests in prayer, in supplication, in the invocation of God. Thus it is that she renews her vital breath; the diligence of her prayer has caused her, in her aloofness from worldly things and in her continual union with the Divine will, to live the tranquil and peaceful life of Our very Lord Jesus Christ; being herself the image of Christ, whose happy and perpetual joy was hardly marred by the horror of the torments He endured for us. . . .” See PICTURE of Our Lady of Mercy. Disaster: Sunken Kalimantan Ferry Map of Indonesia Extract from Log Blamed for Fatal Sinking of Kalimantan Ferry: “At least 18 passengers on a fully-loaded ferry that sunk on East Kalimantan’s Mahakam River were missing and feared dead on Friday evening, police said, with a collision with a log on the river the suspected cause of the capsizing. . . . The KM Surya Indah had 98 people on board when it capsized at the stretch of the river near Seblang village late on Thursday. One body and 76 survivors were rescued, district police chief of detectives Adj. Comr. Suparno said. Sukarja said police, soldiers and residents were searching the river for survivors or bodies, using divers, speedboats and rubber boats. Suparno said rescuers were continuing to search for the missing. . . . the skipper and other crew members were among the survivors. . . .’The ship was made in 2001 and is really seaworthy. According to the boat manifest, the passengers only numbered 40 and there were 10 tons of goods,’ the preliminary suspicion was that the boat had hit a log floating adrift on the Mahakam. . . . Overcapacity has been blamed for other boat capsizing incidents across the country. Last month, nine are suspected to have died after a boat carrying 325 tons of basic staples sank off the coast of Aceh.” See also: Death toll from sunken Indonesia boat climbs to 22, Death toll from ferry boat that sank in Indonesia climbs to 22; at least 7 missing. Saint Valentine, Patron Saint of Travellers (Memorial: February 14) Extract from St. Valentine: “Saints are not supposed to rest in peace; they’re expected to keep busy: to perform miracles, to intercede. Being in jail or dead is no excuse for non-performance of the supernatural. One legend says, while awaiting his execution, Valentinus restored the sight of his jailer’s blind daughter. Another legend says, on the eve of his death, he penned a farewell note to the jailer’s daughter, signing it, “From your Valentine.” St. Valentine was a Priest, martyred in 269 at Rome and was buried on the Flaminian Way. He is the Patron Saint of affianced couples, bee keepers, engaged couples, epilepsy, fainting, greetings, happy marriages, love, lovers, plague, travelers, and young people. He is represented in pictures with birds and roses.”See picture: St. Valentine Heals the Epileptics and Rebukes the Worshippers of False Gods, and Prayer to St. Valentine. Europe (White Beads)
Intention – That the Lord Jesus through the intercession of St. Joan of Arc, the Patron Saint of France, may come to the aid of those affected by the shootings in the French Alps. May the Lord help all those affected by man-made and natural disasters in Europe.
Disaster: Shooting Map of France Extract from France shooting: Victim Saad Al–Hilli was a bright engineer and a perfect father with a loving family: “Saad Al–Hilli was described last night as the ‘perfect father’ and a ‘bright engineer’ who could always be relied upon to help others. Neighbours and friends spoke of their devastation at the fate that had befallen the close–knit, loving family. The two youngsters who survived the carnage were described as stunning little girls, with ‘eyes like a deer’s’. Nobody could imagine anyone wanting to target the family and insisted Mr Hilli’s job as a mechanical engineer was ‘very civilian’ and not secretive. Mr Hilli, 50, had fled Iraq with his parents in the 1970s after his father, also an engineer, had fallen out with Saddam Hussein’s Ba’ath party. He went to school in Pimlico, central London, but persuaded his parents to move to Claygate, Surrey, in 1984 so he could pursue his passion for cycling. He met his wife, Iqbal, in Dubai about 10 years ago and they started a ‘great love affair’, one neighbour said. . . . The friend, who would call himself only James, said: “He was the kind of guy you could ring for help if your car broke down at 8pm and he would say, ‘come round’ and we would spend until midnight fixing it; the kind of friend who was always there when you need him.’ . . . A neighbour, Jack Saltman, 67, said: ‘They were an incredibly close–knit family. Saad loved to cuddle the girls and they would throw themselves into his arms from a yard away. He loved those girls and it’s an awful thing to befall such lovely children. ‘I just think about the older one lying in hospital and her sister in the car under her dead mother for hours and I can’t imagine the horror, it’s so profoundly horrible.’” See also: Child who survived Alps killings returns to UK.
Saint Joan of Arc: Patron Saint of France (Feast Date: May 30) Extract from Joan of Arc: “Saint Joan of Arc, nicknamed The Maid of Orléans (French: ”Jeanne d’Arc”, IPA: [ʒan daʁk]; ca. 1412 – 30 May 1431) is considered a national heroine of France and a Catholic saint. A peasant girl born in eastern France who claimed divine guidance, she led the French army to several important victories during the Hundred Years’ War, which paved the way for the coronation of Charles VII. She was captured by the Burgundians, sold to the English, tried by an ecclesiastical court, and burned at the stake when she was 19 years old. Twenty-five years after the execution, Pope Callixtus III examined the trial, pronounced her innocent and declared her a martyr. Joan of Arc was beatified in 1909 and canonized in 1920. She is – along with St. Denis, St. Martin of Tours, St. Louis IX, and St. Theresa of Lisieux – one of the patron saints of France. Joan asserted that she had visions from God that instructed her to recover her homeland from English domination late in the Hundred Years’ War. The uncrowned King Charles VII sent her to the siege of Orléans as part of a relief mission.” See also: May 30- Saint Joan of Arc: Patron Saint of France, Soldiers and Rape Victims, PRAYERS to Saint Joan of Arc.
America (Red Beads)
Intention – That the Lord Jesus through the intercession of St. Jodocus, the Patron Saint against Fire, may come to the aid of those affected by the gas plant explosions in Mexico. May the Lord help all those affected by man-made and natural disasters in America.
Disaster: Gas Plant Fire Map of Mexico Extract from Mexican gas plant fire kills 26: “An explosion followed by a fire at a gas plant in the northern Mexican state of Tamaulipas has killed 26 people. Mexico’s state oil company, Pemex, said the fire broke out at around lunchtime at its gas facility outside the city of Reynosa, near the border with the United States. Pemex said 26 workers had died, 22 contractors and four company employees. The cause of the blaze has not be established, but the company says the fire has now been extinguished. The plant is located by a road linking the cities of Reynosa and Monterrey. After the explosion, which occurred around 11:00 (16:00 GMT), the road was closed for hours as ambulances and firefighters rushed to the facility to try to control the situation and rescue the wounded. Mexican troops have also been called in to help. A similar accident occurred last week at a nearby plant owned by Pemex, injuring four workers. Another Pemex gas plant in amaulipas state was hit by a fire on 13 August, but the company said no one was injured. Correspondents say illegal tapping at pipelines in northern Mexico, usually carried out by criminal gangs, is the cause of many accidents at Pemex facilities.” See also: 26 killed in blaze at Mexican gas facility near border, Death toll rises to 29 after Mexico gas plant inferno. Saint Helena: Patron Saint against Fire (Feast Date: August 18, May 21) Extract from Saint Helena: “She used her high position and wealth in the service of her religious enthusiasm, and helped build churches throughout the empire. At the age of 80 she led a group to the Holy Land to search for the True Cross. She and her group unearthed three crosses in 326. At the suggestion of Saint Macarius of Jerusalem, she took them to a woman afflicated with an incurable disease, and had her touch each one. One of them immediately cured her, and it was pronounced the True Cross. She built a church on the spot where the cross was found, and sent pieces to Rome and Constantinople; the Feast of the Holy Cross on 14 September celebrates the event. Thus in art, she is usually depicted holding a wooden cross.” See also: August 18, May 21 – Saint Helena: Patron Saint of Archeologists, Converts, Difficult Marriages; against Fire.
